"I feel that had I of picked another cottage my experience could of been different. We arrived in the afternoon and unfortunately the neighbouring cottage had a dog that was left to roam the courtyard and had messed right outside our door so that was the first thing I had to deal with (not great after a long drive) The cottage itself is warm and clean but very very dated and needs some work, ie the downstairs toilet window catch is broken so you cannot close the window properly which made it very very cold, I had to brace the headboard on my daughters bed as it is about to fall off (it moves a good foot it’s so loose) and banged every time she moved. When we were packing my suitcase was on the bed in the downstairs bedroom, I noticed a burning smell to find the light above the bed was smoking and dripping hot melted plastic right onto my clothes (damaging a jacket and marking some trousers) on inspection the fittings are that old some have gone brittle and this one had come loose and had slipped landing on the bulb itself and melting, I dread to think what could of happened. On speaking to the owner (before the light incident) she told me she’s been doing this since 2000 and this is all the original decor and it shows. A lovely setting on a working farm but need modernising"

"This was a lovely cottage, it was situated at the end of a lane so the children could play in the garden without me worrying about traffic. The garden is massive with goal posts, sit and ride toys and apple and plums growing. The owner encouraged us to pick them and use them in our cooking. The cottage is fully equiped the only things id to take was our food. There was a sideboard full of board games, paper, crayons, dvd's and a wii with games for us to use. The bedrooms were a good size with fresh bedding and towels, the childrens room were bunkbeds with toys in the room for the children to play with if the weather wasnt good. There was a file on where to go on days out, how to use the rayburn, put the hotwater on more etc. We were 25mins away from Alton Towers which we took advantage of. Theres plenty of eating places around the corners one in particular was called JR Smoke House which was reasonably priced and lots of choice. This cottage is like home from home and we really enjoyed our stay here."

"We had a lovely, friendly and informative welcome from Paula. The cottage proved to be relaxing, cosy and a perfect size for our party of 3 people. Some might find notices about family heirlooms to be a little daunting. Others will appreciate their need. Some kitchen equipment could be more suitable for use in the microwave, but much depends on someone's style of cooking. The lack of a downstairs toilet may be a restriction for some. The countryside is very appealing and the cottage is well placed to explore the Potteries, North Shropshire, South Cheshire and Dovedale and the Manifold and Churnet Valleys. Overall, this is a lovely, cared for cottage with many appealing features which make for a great break in North Staffordshire, a most underrated part of the country. The admin of booking, confirmation and preparation for the visit were most efficient and trouble free."

"We ended up booking this cottage last minute after we were let down by a different accommodation provider. So glad we did. It's perfectly located so you feel like you're out in the middle of the Peaks but you're also a few minutes from attractions (Alton Towers, Churnet Railway, etc), on the main road to nearby towns, round the corner from some lovely walks and bike rides along the canal and a 5 minute drive to the nearest ASDA/Morrisons for those essential supplies. The cottage was really well stocked and it was a lovely surprise to find some goodies left for us and the dogs (they didn't last long!). The house has so much living space we had no problem staying in one day when the weather was awful, and also the garden is plenty big enough that when the sun came out we could enjoy a nice BBQ and the dogs could have a good run around. This place is highly recommended!"

"We had a great week visiting various attractions. 8-10 minutes by car to Alton Towers although still go early and well before 10am opening otherwise a 10 minute trip can turn into an hour sitting in queues to get in to the car park. Hawthorn Park Follies definately worth a trip and great for the dogs. Next door to the Churnet Valley Steam Train Station which was another attraction we could tke the dogs. The house was perfect for our family of 5 and two dogs to call home for the week. We cooked, ordered take aways and had some lovely meals in near by pubs and restaurants. There were plenty of leaflets in the house for things to do and places to eat. A lovely touch were the towels in the utility room especially for the dogs. Considering it is rented to visitors with pets, the house was very clean and well maintained. Excellent value for money."
