What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Grindley - Verified booking

After several emails and phone calls to your company throughout the week regarding our dissatisfactory stay at The Pines, I am emailing to make a formal complaint with the issues we experienced and the lack of resolution. I would like to mention that the bedding and towels were lovely, and we had plenty of hot water throughout the stay. Cleaning - Poor cleaning throughout the property including dust and cobwebs, finding a pizza in the microwave on arrival, old/used coffee pods in the machine. Hot tub - information booklet states the hot tub should be cleaned x3/week. It was not cleaned during our stay. This is a significant health issue, and we now worry the hot tub was not cleaned prior to our stay between guests. Coffee machine - this broke towards the start of our stay and tripped a fuse. We were advised by the company to stand on a plastic bar stool to switch the trip back on. This is an entirely inappropriate suggestion, not knowing the make up or abilities of our group and not taking into account our health and safety. No coffee pods were provided as per the Information booklet. We did eventually receive a new coffee machine, however this was also faulty and leaked water. Dishwasher - this broke towards the start of our stay and was not fixed. Only x2 tea towels and a bathroom hand towel were provided by housekeeping at the start of the stay, and we only received additional materials to wash up with on Thursday after having to request these. We have spent countless hours of our holiday washing up, for 8 people minimum x3 per day. Fridge - faulty, freezing our food despite being at reasonable temperature. This is a food safety issue and subsequently we had to throw food away, we expect the approx cost of this to be at least £200 across the week - including raw and cooked meats, fish, cheeses, dips, milk, fruit/veg, yoghurts etc. A maintenance company attended on Thursday, the issue was not fixed. Games room - no heating, and therefore not usable at certain times of the day due to being so cold. We did not accept the box of chocolates sent by the company, as we quite frankly found this offensive given the amount of issues and lack of resolution we experienced. We have holidayed in self catering properties for many years, and unfortunately this experience has been very disappointing.

Good location, short walk to the village centre, Co-op and other shops etc nearby.

We knew the cottage was near the train station but didn't realise it was close to a barrier crossing, the warning bleeps when the barriers operated occasionally disturbed our sleep, but we got used to it. Upon entering the cottage we immediately detected a strong 'doggy' smell, we have stayed in many dog friendly cottages before but this is the first time we have experienced this, we bought an air freshener and left it there for the next customer. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of this cottage, particularly downstairs. The leather sofa had a sort of powdery feel to it (maybe the after-effect of a cleaning agent), there was clear visible evidence that vacuuming wasn't done properly - dog hairs were found on the living room rug (especially round the edges), and under the front of the leather sofa. An empty used dog food dish was found under the TV cabinet. Dirty window ledges in the conservatory. There was no Visitor Book or customer info pack found. We noticed a Wi-Fi password code cellotaped to the TV cabinet but no router SSID name so we had to guess which one it was. There was a small leak to the cloak-room radiator which we we left a note about. There was water collected in the bottom of the fridge which we wiped up every day. The front door lock was loose. The cupboard on the upstairs landing had numerous mens clothing items hung up which we found a little odd. We felt overall that there were general cleanliness and some maintenance issues with this property. To finish on a positive, there is plenty of parking close by, and the overall room sizes were good, and great cupboard space in the main bedroom.

We had a lovely week stay in this property with our two dogs.

Great location to use as a base for travelling around the south west coast. The property had an excellent enclosed garden and it was nice to enjoy the warmth of the conservatory whilst allowing the dogs to roam freely. Our favourite feature had to have been the waterfall shower in the bathroom, it was perfect to come home to after a wet day exploring Wales. Shortly after we arrived we noticed a significant smell in the lounge which we assumed was from the previous visitors dog(s) - we could tell the owners had tried to get rid of it with air fresheners, however it was still prominent. We did get used to it each day after spending about 10mins in the lounge and becoming “nose blind”. The listing is now no longer accepting bookings with dogs, and we can understand why if this smell was caused by a visitor with dogs. Aside from this, we had a lovely stay! A couple of things to note: the WiFi is very weak and pretty unusable, Netflix on the TV didn’t connect or work for our entire stay, the curtains in the bedrooms do not block out any light (so bring an eye mask!), and the house is approximately 15metres from a level crossing & train station - so be prepared for 5:40am train horns and bells most mornings. Having said that, we had the most perfect week and none of these things dampened our experience!

Lovely cottage, pretty rooms, lovely views and we were very comfortable.

There was a wood burner which will be really nice in winter but we did not need to use it - it was very cosy. The dining area was spacious and nice. There are some beautiful walks nearby, including a walk through the valley to Port Talbot and the nearby Afan Forest country park. We also enjoyed the South Wales Miner's museum, which was very interesting. The Bethel Chapel cafe is great (open at weekends) and the Teapot a short drive away. Mumbles lovely for a day out. As feedback we could have used a few more kitchen things - a teapot and cafetiere coffee pot would be useful, as the space is perfect for large groups. A bread knife, and knife sharpener would be nice to have and the cutlery wasn't great for e.g. cutting a steak. Also just to note, the utensils are metal and there are a number of lovely new non stick pans, which will get scratched by metal, so some wooden or silicone ones might be good! These are just small things though and we generally really enjoyed cooking and eating at the cottage.

The property was okay and we liked the quality of the furniture (comfortable sofas and bed) although the bed was squeaky.

Fantastic private garden for dogs. The property has a private parking space (although under an archway at the rear of the house not easily accessible to the property and would suit smaller vehicles) Which we couldn't use due the size of our vehicle. Also the train station is extremely close (we stayed over the weekend and didn't hear many trains until Monday morning when we noticed the noise). The property is listed as a semi-detached and is actually an end terrace. The area is currently being extended and building works are on going which was irritating and not ideal. On the whole the property it's self has most of the things you will need for an adequate stay (we did have to soak and rewash pots and pans which we shouldn't have had to do, although that's probably down to the previous occupants). The overall cleanliness is good and the the property is acceptable (however just be careful when using the shower
