What our customers say about their holidays

    • Tony - Verified booking

Delightful location - a hamlet with a small number of houses and an extensive farm/collection of buildings, including the holiday properties, two dogs and a herd of cattle.

Not to mention a tythe barn used for an art exhibition, attached to a lovely cafe with home-made cakes, etc. and an interesting close-by church. A friendly atmosphere with the owner husband & wife and grown-up daughter present. A good location for access to the South Downs Way as well as by road to some important towns such as Arundel, Chichester, various coastal resorts, etc., and a variety of interesting attractions, National Trust and others. The property was comfortable and had central heating that was necessary first thing in the day and in the evenings that we stayed in. TV reception and WiFi were acceptable and worth having, as was the dishwasher! Overall, though, there was a feeling of a creeping neglect however, in the property and the surrounding buildings - perhaps there have not been a enough takers (we were the only short-term rentals at the location). Having said that, we would/might return if/when we wanted to further explore the South Downs area.

When we arrived at the cottage, there was no heating on and the cottage was absolutely freezing cold.

We asked the owner to turn the heating on, but it took a very long time for the cottage to heat up. My mum is 84 years old, and we are in our 60s. We wanted to walk in to a nice cosy cottage, but unfortunately, this was not the case. It wasn't until Tuesday (we arrived on the Monday) until we started to feel warm. We had to ask for toilet rolls and milk, as there was not a welcome pack provided for us. We felt that the cottage was not prepared in advance for our arrival for our 4 night stay. The cottage was not very clean, including a lot of the kitchen ware. There was no rinse aid or salt for the dishwasher. the kettle was very small and leaked. The toaster was very old and used, as was the microwave (which we chose not to use). The cottage needs to be updated in its decor and its appliances. In the conservatory, one of the roller blinds, we chose not to use, as it looked like it was ready to fall off the wall. The cottage is in an excellent location.

This was perfect for our needs.

Facilities were all great and the house was well equipped and very clean. Beds were comfortable too. Garden was lovely and kitchen well equipped. Although close to the road it wasn’t noisy. Quirky interior. The minor niggles we found (although didn’t spoil the experience) were as follows; We probably could have done with an extra toilet roll per bathroom with nine people staying 1 per bathroom was not enough. The shower upstairs didn’t drain properly. The downstairs loo handle was tricky to open with trapping fingers. A first aid kit? We couldn’t find one Summer duvets The blind in upstairs room was a bit of a battle. Having said that the positives far outweighed any negatives and only really mentioning as they can be easily rectified for other guests.

Longmace house is a beautiful property which kept the old features and combined it with modern touches. It is bang in the middle of Arundel so was a great base to explore the town and its surrounding areas. The property was very spacious and well equipped, perfect for a family getaway or even a gathering with friends. We also luckily stayed during a weekend where the farmers market was held and it was a real treat. Although no allocated parking, I wouldn’t worry about it, plenty of car parks and on street parking, there is also free parking on mill road if you get lucky with a space. We had a restful and enjoyable stay, plenty of walks for the dog too. We highly recommend this place and Paul was very informative prior to our arrival which was a bonus.

We had a lovely family get together!

The decor and comfort were amazing! The late check out was a kind gesture The main problem we had was the temperature fluctuations in both showers. All nine of us ended up showering in the bath with a hand held shower attachment. I did ask the owner about this with out any solution. Small things could be improved…. Couple of larger saucepans ( cooking pasta in 2 saucepans wasn’t ideal) Maybe a large Wok A blender Somewhere to hang coats? Shoe rack at the door? These are just small adjustments that would improve the holiday experience. I’m not complaining, just giving suggestions! I’ve rented out holiday villas in spain for many years, so I know what people want! We really had a great time. Thanks very much, Kim and Family
