"Despite poor weather, all four generations of our family had a super week at Ratherton House. Ant looks after the grounds superbly and after a storm on our first day came back to clean the pool again and clear the tennis court of twigs and leaves which we really appreciated. Some of us took road bikes and the house is a great base for the quiet lanes around Holsworthy and down to the sea. The toddlers enjoyed the swings and slides in the play area, the great grandparents enjoyed the conservatory and we all enjoyed the pool, tennis court, grounds and the fields around the house. The kitchen is well equipped so we ate in for the whole week - we aren’t used to cooking with an aga so it was good fun to experiment while it rained outside!Overall a good base for a week and only 20 minutes to the coast for the beaches of Bude, Widemouth and Sandymouth Bay which has a free car park for National Trust members. We would definitely go back if we return to North Devon - just hope that the weather is a little kinder next time!"

"Lacking Wifi. Larger screen TV would be good as the huge windows and room tend to dwarf the current one. Also, the TV volume does sporadically cut out for a split second. These are minor points and would not deter a second visit. The location is very central to many points of interest (Bude, Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac, Padstow, Newquay, Eden Project, to name but a few), and generally not much over an hours drive to visit them. The local shop is very good, staffed with helpful, happy people. The accommodation itself was superb and we had no issues with it at all. It was clean, tidy and very well presented.Oak lane does tend to get busy at 08:30 and 15:00 hrs due to school run, so be aware. Our little boy was sad to leave Treetops and thoroughly enjoyed the good selection of games in the games box, especially 'Mastermind', so thank you for that. :)The view over the countryside at the rear from garden and windows is great, regardless of the weather!"

"The one local amenity The Village Inn, was excellent. I would recommend this to able bodied people. The managers were very efficient and friendly. But if one of your party needs a really accessible property: There are grab rails around the downstairs toilet and a slope to the front door; Both upstairs and downstairs showers are over bath, not easy for the over 80's in our party and completely inaccessible for my father who needs assistance walking; there are no grab rails, or mirror, or towel rail, near the downstairs sink; without moving at least 2 of the ( very heavy and soft) chairs, there is no access to the dining table for a wheelchair. The grounds are lovely, but pushing a wheelchair on the loose stones was very difficult."

"The owner was very personable and gave us plenty of info on what and where to go, such lovely chap. The cottage was just ideal with a closed in garden for our Westie and the view was excellent out of the back. Inside had all the things that you would need for a weekend stay or a full 2 weeks stay. So much to do but little time to do it all , so going to have to come ASAP. Coastal walks are really just on your doorstep. Crackington Haven just down the road is beautiful. Have to say there is no phone reception and you have to go 1 and half miles to the main phone mast, in a way that’s a good thing if you really want to get away from it all. We had a throughly great time and can not wait to come back to this beautiful setting."

"Coxford Barn is a little haven of peace and quiet. Would I go back, definitely. Would I change anything, well most of the furnishings were adequate, the bed was really comfy. The sofa was a bit uncomfortable and I think an upgrade is due. The TV was very small and I had trouble if there were words on screen. The owner was lovely, living locally, he came and made us feel welcome, giving us advice on local pubs etc. He was available if needed but never intrusive. Stunning views of countryside and the sea. Quite rural so far needed to get out and about. Some lovely beaches, Bude is lovely and has a small retail park and some interesting independent shops. Coxford Barn is a little treasure."
