Have a wild adventure with our New Forest holiday cottages

The New Forest is as pretty as a picture, boasting some of the most idyllic countryside that England has to offer. Full of tiny, unspoilt villages that wouldn't look out of place on a chocolate box, and peppered with wild ponies and unspoilt scenery, a holiday in the New Forest promises relaxation and memories to be treasured for a lifetime.

While most people tend to imagine the New Forest as a sprawling green landscape, it also has one of the most spectacular coastlines in the country. Whether you fancy topping your tan up in the summer of taking a bracing walk in winter, there are plenty of beaches and coves to explore. The coastal walk is immensely popular, and the New Forest Tour blue route will help you uncover all those secluded bays and saltwater lagoons.

Our New Forest holiday cottages offer the perfect base from which to explore this dreamy part of the UK, with many just a short distance from the coast, giving you the opportunity to be beside the seaside at any time of year.

From chic modern homes to rustic cottages full of character, choose a New Forest self-catering property and experience this must-see destination at your own pace.

Why choose a New Forest weekend break or staycation?

A holiday in the New Forest will leave you feeling invigorated and recharged. Rambling through wild woodlands, popping into charming villages, catching your breath in ancient pubs, and marvelling at the wildlife as you stroll along bubbling brooks and streams are what New Forest breaks are made of.

The New Forest is a National Park which covers parts of Wiltshire, East Dorset, and Hampshire, and there is so much to see and do.

There are many beautiful towns and villages to visit and stay in the New Forest. Lyndhurst is known as the capital of the area. The main street is lined with pretty shops and tempting restaurants and cafes. Just outside of Lyndhurst is the amazing Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary, where you can spot deer and other wildlife throughout the year.

For car lovers, make sure you visit Beaulieu, a picturesque town that wouldn't look out of place in a storybook. Beaulieu is home to The National Motor Museum, and car enthusiasts flock here to see vintage motors, the World of Top Gear, and much more. There is also the historic Palace House to see, which is well worth a visit.

Lymington is a lovely place to stay for quintessential seaside vibes. It's a smart and stylish town filled with cobbled streets, Georgian architecture, and a gorgeous harbour. If you're visiting in the summer, make sure you take a dip in the famous seawater baths.

For more seaside fun, stay in the instagrammable town of Milford-on-Sea. It's ideal for a dose of serenity, spotting the colourful beach huts, and exploring the incredible Hurst Castle, established by Henry VIII.

No trip to the New Forest is complete without seeing the famous wild horses, ponies, and deer, and the best places to spot them are in Burley and Brockenhurst. This beautiful village of Brockenhurst is well-known for its local hotel The Pig, excellent collector's fair, countryside charm, and wild ponies and deer that roam the streets. Burley is idyllic and the home to all things equine. You can spot wild ponies, enjoy a horse ride, and join one of the forest trails.

If you're travelling with the kids, you'll find plenty of family-friendly attractions to keep them busy. Paulton's Park is a brilliant theme park and home to Peppa Pig World. For animal lovers, visit the New Forest Wildlife Park, the New Forest Reptile Centre or Marwell Zoo and see how many animals you can meet. For a farmyard adventure, head to Longdown Activity Farm or Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park.

There are lots of gorgeous gardens and parks to discover in the New Forest. We love Lepe Country Park for taking in the panoramic views, walking along the enchanting coast, and relaxing in the wildflower meadows. Exbury Gardens is another attraction to add to your itinerary. The floral displays are spectacular (especially in the spring) and the little ones will love riding the miniature steam railway.

We've only scratched the surface when it comes to what to see and do in this exciting destination. To experience the wonders and beauty for yourself, book one of our New Forest holiday cottages and have your own wild adventure.

New Forest holiday rentals for every occasion

Our New Forest accommodations come in all shapes and sizes, from cute and cosy cottages perfect for a romantic weekend away, to sprawling manor houses ideal for families or large groups of friends.

Self-catering cottages are the ultimate way to explore the New Forest. Use your cottage as a comfy base to discover everything on offer. Spend your days walking through woodland, paddling on a canoe, riding horses, and wandering through picture-perfect villages, before returning home to your cottage and unwinding in style.

Title: Charming Studio Barn with Thoughtful Touches Date of Stay: February 16th- 21st 2025 Here are some highlights from my experience: Pros: 1.

Comfortable Accommodation: The studio layout was well-designed with the bed at one end and the kitchen at the other. It was cozy and welcoming. 2. Thoughtful Amenities: It was lovely to find a pint of milk in the fridge and a couple of pain au chocolate upon arrival. The enclosed area just outside was perfect for my four-legged companion, Poppy and a bonus was the outsize light for her night-time wee! The queen size bed was a real treat. The barn was well equipped with everything you might need (even a hairdryer, and a torch). 3. Friendly Hosts: The hosts, Richard and Jo, were reassuringly close by, (the other side of the fence) and as I was travelling on my own it was good to know that I had neighbours. I appreciated Jo's welcome check-up message on Sunday evening too. Cons: 1. Location Confusion: The postcode initially took me to a property on a different road. I recommend using Stuckton Road in your sat nav or arriving while it's still light to avoid any confusion. 2. Shower Room Temperature: The walk-in shower room was a bit cold initially, but it warmed up nicely after the radiator was switched on. 3. There is a major road close by and you can hear traffic most of the time but it didn't spoil my visit. Overall Experience: My stay at 2 Welford Barns was delightful. It provided a cozy retreat, and the friendly hosts added a reassuring touch. It's close to so many other places: we visited the New Forest, Boscombe, Highcliffe and Wimborne. I would recommend this studio barn to anyone looking for a dog friendly relaxing getaway. Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Lovely warm comfortable property which ticked lots of boxes.

Not many places have all of the following... Space, comfort, cosiness, very good woodburner with logs supplied, great rural location, peaceful, private, fully enclosed dog proof garden, well equipped, dishwasher and washing machine, games room, extra large comfortable bed, great shower, amazing deep luxurious bath and a delicious homemade cake.. the list goes on. We had a couple of small hiccups which Cathy attended to fully and immediately. For us two things made it a 9 out of 10.We hate TV's on the wall and this one is particularly high up and very uncomfortable to watch. We like to watch a film in these dark evenings and it was difficult to get comfortable (we are 70 & 71) so maybe its an age thing. Also the Wifi wasn't very efficient during our week which may effect your stay. If you are going this time if year two things to be aware if are that in the dark its not that clear where it is from the directions(obvious in daylight). Drive on past the white barred gate and not through it like we did! Also you cannot park close to the property to unpack and have to take your things up in a wheeled trolley in the dark (so take a torch). Although this was a little annoying this soon passed on entering Russet and seeing how lovely it was. (TV aside) We had a very relaxing comfortable week and Cathy was lovely would definitely recommend.

Four families came to celebrate our silver and my sister's Ruby wedding anniversaries.

The two separate cottages and barn accommodated all 11 of us, with the use of two put-u-up settees. We used the dining and kitchen area of one of the cottages for the children to eat and it meant that there was still some living space for other adults wanting a retreat! The children loved to watch the farm animals, but were a little wary of the dogs! Each cottage is well equipped as is the barn, with TVs in the cottages but not in the main barn. The barn area has a lovely long table and benches allowing us all to share the days activities with our meals, but perhaps one small point is that sitting 8 adults on the sofa was a bit cosy! The position of the cottages gives you easy easy access to the sea and all that you find in the New Forest. The owner provided an additional service of a three course meal to end our celebrations, which I would highly recommend. This was a perfect retreat for a lovely family celebration. Thanks to Cathy, the owner for all your help to make this a most enjoyable stay.

I had lovely stay as did my little elderly dog Rufus.

In a beautiful very friendly village. The 'barn' had everything we needed. If anything the underfloor heating was a bit his and miss, couldn't use the controls so I had to rely on the log burner as it was freezing outside. I got through all the remaining wood during my stay to keep warm. Apart from that, we took a trip down to Bournemouth on a lovely if crisp sunny day, about 35 min drive and a walk on the beach. A 15 min drive to the New Forest and a 2 min walk to the village shop, which is open twice a day 9-10.30am and 4.30-6pm Mon-Fri and Sat morning only. About a 5min drive to Fordingbridge. For dog owners there is a lovely walk through the church grounds and through the neighbouring fields. I did get a supermarket delivery but give directions for the driver as the post code includes all the properties around that area. For anyone who likes military aviation you may get to see Apache helicopters fly overhead from Middle Wallop army base near Andover.

It was a lovely property and we had a wonderful time.

The location was fantastic and a great base for exploring the Hampshire Downs, New Forest and Dorset coastline. The only point I would like to make is that I think it was a little disappointing that we could not enter the property until 6pm on our day of arrival. I totally understand the current situation with Covid-19 and the extra cleaning that needs to take place but I didn't really feel that an awful lot of cleaning had taken place. Don't get me wrong, it was clean and pleasant but not entirely sure everywhere was sanitised. We stripped beds on departure, as requested, which was fine and this included bagging up duvets, pillows and towels. This would have saved the cleaner a good half an hour. Please don't see this as a criticism though or a lack of understanding on my behalf, it's just a little frustrating to lose a day of a much needed holiday. However, we would definitely return to this property.
