About this property

A cosy, well-appointed terraced cottage in the Welsh village of Tanygrisiau, just over a mile from the popular town of Blaenau Ffestiniog on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. Located on a residential lane amongst stunning scenery with wonderful lakeside walks nearby, and with the Ffestiniog Steam Railway passing behind the cottage, Ty Gwynn occupies a charming location. With lovely views to the front, there’s an open fire in the sitting room, where you can settle after a busy day exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. The well-equipped kitchen feels airy and bright with its vaulted ceiling and sociable dining area, whilst the snug sitting area with warming woodburning stove is neatly tucked in the corner; with two USB sockets included to charge your devices this is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine after your evening meal. Three cosy bedrooms, one on the second floor, and a contemporary family bathroom complete this delightful cottage. Outside is an enclosed paved patio area to the front, which enjoys a sunny aspect, and to the rear is a large elevated garden with furniture, a great space in which to sit and take in the views of the surrounding countryside. With plenty of pretty walks leading towards waterfalls and along the shores of the local lakes, plus an abundance of cycle paths and mountain bike tracks all available from the doorstep, there are lots of lovely things to enjoy nearby. The Ffestiniog Steam Railway is also a stone’s throw away and the longest 4-man zip wire in Europe at Zip World, with the Bounce Below underground trampoline are also close by, along with the magnificent slate caverns at Llechwedd, meaning there’s something for everyone to be enjoyed. Take a day trip to the scenic coast of North Wales, which is also easily accessible from this delightful cottage, a great base for exploring both coast and country at any time of the year.

Tanygrisiau, meaning "below the steps", refers to the stepped cliffs above this traditional Welsh village. The Moelwyn mountains protect the village from much of the wind from northerly gales in the winter, and give the village a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering its location high in Snowdon. The village stands amongst some dramatic scenery, and is a good starting point for many walks, especially if your intention is to climb Moelwyn itself.

We stayed here as a group of 5 women for a mountain biking trip and it’s was perfect. Plenty of space, fires to keep warm in evening. Huge garden at the back, which we didn’t get to make use of but it would be perfect to stay with a dog or in summer.

Really well equipped and warm, comfortable and quiet. The locals were very friendly and within seconds of some amazing walks. Our host kept in contact to help whenever we needed so I would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
