About this property

Resting in the rural village of Talwaenydd just outside the historic town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, is this old quarryman’s cottage, 7 Tai Oakeley. Enjoying views of the rolling Welsh mountains, this inner terrace stone cottage is an idyllic hideaway for six nature lovers or a family. Entering the property, kick off your walking boots and house them in the storage near the door, ready to ramble your surroundings. Discover the living/dining room, here you can curl on the sofa with a cup of tea as the woodburning stove crackles before you; afterwards gather around the rustic table to enjoy a hearty meal together. Moving through the home, locate the contemporary kitchen, with an electric oven and hob, a fridge and a washer/dryer to keep your holiday clothes smelling fresh. From here, you will find the ground-floor bathroom, so why not run a hot bath and relax your muscles after a day filled with adventure? Venture upstairs to choose between three beautifully presented bedrooms, including a king-size, a double and a bunk room with TV, ideal for the younger ones. Awaken with a steaming cup of coffee in the rear courtyard to breathe in the countryside before letting the day commence. 7 Tai Oakeley is a superb base for daredevils; just across the road is Zip World for thrilling activities, rugged mountain biking trails and the Former Cwmorthin Slate Mine for a tour. Jump in the car to visit the slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog to treat yourselves to a home-cooked meal in a traditional pub and stock up on the essentials from the convenience store. Venture to the harbour town of Porthmadog to unveil the town's past at the Maritime Museum, take a picnic to savour the tranquil Porthmadog Park and why not hop aboard a steam train to soak in the sweeping countryside. For a recuperating escape, choose 7 Tai Oakeley.

Blaenau Ffestiniog, a wonderful old slate town, is in a fantastic location for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. There are many shops, taverns, and restaurants to choose from. The primary local attractions include Zip World Slate Caverns, Europe's longest and fastest zip line, which is a thrilling underground adventure. The slate mines have now been designated as a unesco World Heritage Site, and visitors may take fascinating underground tours to experience mining as it was done in the past. The famed narrow gauge Ffestiniog mountain railway also travels through the Snowdonia National Park for 13 miles to Porthmadog, the harbour town.

Someone has really considered the decor here and the result is a beautiful, cosy and classy retreat. Very comfortable beds and sofas. Immaculate throughout. Stunning views. Handy location and parking. We truly did not want to leave! My only niggle, and it's tiny, is that the kitchen lacked a few things....I could not find a can opener, and some larger pans would have been really handy, as would a microwave maybe.....but other than that the attention to detail was fantastic.

We were perfectly placed to get to a lot of places we had planned to visit. It was lovely and peaceful with a great view. The house had everything we needed apart from (and I am being really picky. Sorry.) A measuring jug and a place for our food waste.

It provided a great base to explore north Wales, and we would definitely book again! The beds were really comfortable and there was enough space for us a family of 5. Our younger children loved lying in bed watching tv and we found the sofa's so comfortable. Thanks so much for a great week!
