Ty Newydd is a pretty, characterful detached cottage, sympathetically built around the mid-1800s and remains of one of the original outbuildings of the adjacent Royal Goat Hotel. It is situated in Beddgelert, one of the most picturesque villages in Snowdonia, at the heart of the National Park. The living room is comfortably furnished and the bathrooms have been fully refitted for the 2022 season. The modern, comprehensively equipped kitchen has delighted visitors who enjoy cooking. If eating out is preferred, then all the main village facilities (shops and post office, four pubs/hotels, restaurants and cafes) are within easy walking distance.
Activities to suit all tastes are readily available. Hill walking can be undertaken from the front door as well as further afield. Cycle hire and other adventure activities, including two Zipworld sites, are available a short drive away. Black Rock Sands is a fabulous beach just beyond nearby Porthmadog. A two minute walk leads to the Welsh Highland Railway station with steam trains to Caernarfon and Porthmadog. The Welsh castles, the Italianate village of Portmeirion and gardens at Bodnant and Plas Brondanw are a short drive away. Nesting ospreys further down the Glaslyn river are an attraction for wildlife enthusiasts.
The area has just been declared a World Heritage Site for the remains of the slate industry, and this can be explored at several sites including the National Museum at Llanberis, Llechwedd in Blaenau Ffestiniog and the Ffestiniog Railway running from there to Porthmadog; plenty for the keen amateur industrial archaeologist to explore.
Amuse your children by having them see how many dragons they can find around the house! Pub and restaurant 30 yards.
