I would have liked to have given this a higher rating, as the owners made us feel very comfortable, however, there were a few issues that mean it only gets 3 stars. The cottage is a little dated, in particular the plumbing (one issue with hot water pressure was resolved during our stay). The shower downstairs is not really up to modern standards, with the pressure very poor, and the temperature not adjustable. It would be worth installing a power shower, to give it a bit more oomph! While the view is great from the front of the cottage, unfortunately the cottage is right next to the main road going into Bala. While this may not trouble some people, it was a real issue for us. The main bedroom faces onto the road, and there is almost constant traffic from 6am to late into the evening, so we were woken up at 6 every morning. It's meant to be 20mph at this point on the road, but no one was going that speed, particularly the lorries or motorbikes (which treat it like a race track!).It would be worth Eleri & Gareth updating the photos on the website, because a few things have changed. The pictures shows a fence/railing below the decking area, so dogs wouldn't be able to get out into the car park, but this has now gone, so we had to put a chair across the stairs to the deck to stop our dog getting out...perhaps a small gate at the top of the stairs would help this.

The hosts were very welcoming and accommodating, and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches like the welcome basket and fresh scones. The location itself is absolutely beautiful and was perfect for the activities we had planned, such as cycling and paddle boarding. That said, we did feel the cottage could benefit from some updates and improvements to make it more comfortable. The lounge furniture was quite worn, and the cottage felt a little rundown and cluttered with personal items, which limited the space available for our own things. The steep staircase would not be suitable for the elderly, and we found the master bed to be very squeaky, which made it difficult to sleep well.Practical touches like coat hooks or a space for shoes and wet outdoor gear would also make a big difference, especially given the nature of the location. We had chosen this cottage partly because it advertised a bike store, but unfortunately this was not available as expected, as the space was being used for café equipment. While we did manage to fit two bikes in, it was a bit of a squeeze and they were slightly damaged in the process. The store also couldn’t be locked, which made us feel uneasy given how busy the area was over the Easter weekend. As a result, we had to store one bike in our van and bring the paddle boards into the cottage, which reduced the available space indoors. Due to this we ended our holiday early and went home. Overall, we had a lovely time in a stunning setting, and with a few improvements, this could be an even more enjoyable place to stay
