About this property

Conwy 4.6 miles. Nestled in the idyllic setting of Rowen near Conwy, North Wales, is this grand five-bedroom, detached house, Y Gorlan. Formerly the 19th-century village vicarage, Y Gorlan has been extensively refurbished to perfectly combine contemporary and traditional elements, as well as enjoying a fantastic location within the Snowdonia National Park, just moments away from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Conwy, making it a superb family-friendly dwelling for a group or family of 10. The property has previously been awarded five stars by Visit Wales and Visit Wales Cyclists and Walkers Welcome Award. Be welcomed into the tastefully decorated sitting room, where you can sink back into the reclining sofas in front of the Sky TV with access to movies, box sets and Sports, as the woodburning stove crackles nearby, or retire to the additional sitting room, where you will find further plush seating and amazing views of The Carneddau mountain range behind Rowen. The chef of the group will have found their haven in the beautiful and fully-equipped kitchen, by French designer, Mobalpa, where they will have all they need to create culinary delights, ready to serve at the large solid oak dining table with seating for 10. On warmer days, why not head out to the enclosed gardens where you can fire up the barbecue for alfresco dining and play lawn games with the little ones. Completing the ground floor is the first bedroom, a queen-size bed and en-suite shower room. There is also access to a cloakroom. Continue upstairs to find the remaining four bedrooms, two king-size and two doubles, each with their own en-suite shower room, hairdryers, and fans. Adjacent to your new home from home is the welcoming Ty Gwyn, where you can treat your loved ones to a well-deserved meal and sample the local ales. For further local amenities and attractions, take the short drive over to Conwy, where you will find the magnificent Conwy Castle, The Smallest House In Great Britain, Plas Mawr, the historic town walls and the popular Mulberry which serves fresh seafood and overlooks the River Conwy. Y Gorlan’s exceptional location means there is an abundance of activity right on your doorstep, from numerous circular walks, scenic cycling trails, Bodnant Gardens, outdoor sports, and even the famous Snowdon Peak and renowned Zip World Llechwedd if you venture further. Be sure to visit Llandudno, where you can embark up the Great Orme for breath-taking views, see the grey seals at Angel Bay, catch a live performance at Venue Cymru, or spend the day at one of two gorgeous beaches. Add a touch of opulence to your North Wales getaway with a stay at Y Gorlan.

Though Conwy has been designated as a World Heritage Site due to its historical and architectural significance, the town's centre is a hive of activity. In addition to its many specialty stores, restaurants, and hotels, the area hosts a number of festivals and fairs celebrating the city's rich history as well as musical performances, art galleries, and historical sites. Conwy Castle, constructed for King Edward I between 1283 and 1287 according to a plan by Master James of St. George, is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of mediaeval military architecture. The narrow rocky ledge on which the castle rests likely influenced its peculiar, elongated shape, which features two barbicans, eight enormous towers, and a magnificent bow-shaped hall. Many of the town's long-standing customs, such as the Honey fair, Seed fair, and Gwledd Conwy Feast in October and other musical events held throughout the year, are kept alive as a mark of the community's pride in its heritage and celebration of its past. Conwy is a great place to stay if you want to visit the nearby beautiful countryside, unspoiled sandy beaches, or the nearby majestic Snowdonia National Park. Surf Snowdonia is a mere six miles distant, and the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, home to Europe's longest zip line, are also easily accessible.

Thankyou so much for the welcome pack which was a lovely start and much appreciated. Everything we could possibly need was supplied, right down to a dustpan and brush. There was a great selection of crockery, glasses and kitchen equipment and supplies. We did not eat out, so cannot recommend any local eateries but instead we cooked in the lovely kitchen and dined al fresco in the beautiful scenic garden every evening as the weather was perfect. Y Gorlan is the perfect base for enjoying the beautiful local area of Conwy and North Wales. It was great to have an en-suite to each room. Just one slight issue, my Granddaughter said that the shower in the four poster room knocked loudly. I didnt check this as she just used one of the others, so am only mentioning it in case you want to check it yourselves . We were very sad to leave and would have loved to stay longer and can highly recommend Y Gorlan. Thanks again.

O verall excellent. A couple of things not working - the hand held Dyson did not work despite being on charge, the Nespresso coffee machine had been filled with loose coffee grounds by a previous user and was badly clogged up - We tried to flush it but never used it, and one of the showers really needs descaling. Part of the trim on the outside of the back sitting room door is becoming detached. We broke two glasses in the dishwasher which we left on the top above the sink. Removing ash from the base from the base of the BBQ is very difficult - a small dust pan and brush should be supplied. Finally at the price paid we would have expected a small welcome pack of fresh milk plus a few other items as there is no shop in the village and the nearest shops is more than a short drive away. The location is lovely.
