Excellent. His Majesty the King has taken afternoon tea at the tower. The late Queen planted a tree outside the tower. The tower is beautifully decorated and compact... there is no door between the main living area and bedroom,...the bathroom is at the foot of the bed and has a sliding door. Kitchen beautifully organised with everything you could need, including some staple food provided... and Prosecco ! Hairdryer in the cupboard. TV behind a mirror. Dogs to be kept on leads on estate. Lots of birds, fish, squirrels, sheep etc... huge estate... like a fairytale, surrounded by emerald green fields and mountains. Sunset at the river is magical. The heating had to be left on (15 degrees Celsius) even though it is summer, as it's impossible to re-start the system otherwise. My kind, practical, aristocratic host collected me from The Bear pub in Crick Howell after 5pm, after the local taxi firms couldn't come out until 10pm and buses are only every hour. Take the 43 bus from Glanusk to Crick Howell and onto Abergavenny (X43 straight to Abergavenny station)... take-aways don't delivery from Abergavenny. No buses on a Sunday. Many take-aways in crick Howell don't deliver, so plan ahead. The family are lovely and very welcoming to guests. My wonderful host came to the rescue again. What a treat to experience life on such a beautiful estate. The little church is very cute.

Overall a great, unique place to stay in stunning scenery near the lovely thriving town of Crickhowell. The Glanusk estate itself is largely a mix of private working and residential areas so not as good or clear-cut for walking through as we hoped, although it is well maintained. While dog friendly, there was a lack of food/water bowls and outside waste bins - Crickhowell itself is very dog friendly. The booking and arrival/departure process was nice and smooth.
