About this property

Montgomery 5 miles. Ash Barn is a wood clad semi-detached barn situated just under a mile from a small livestock farm, close to the village of Montgomery, amidst a scattering of hamlets on the English/Welsh borders. This lovely barn is ideally placed for friends and families to explore Bishops Castle, Welshpool, Newtown triangle and an ideal base for exploring Mid Wales and Shropshire. Located at the end of a private drive with stunning far-reaching views across miles and miles of beautiful countryside, this immaculate cottage has lovely oak doors and floors. There is a spacious and comfortable sitting room with a TV with a HDMI cable for laptops and there's also a splendid woodburner to keep everyone cosy on cool evenings. The impressive breakfast kitchen boasts a large table, perfect for friends and family to gather round for a delicious home-cooked meal, or to enjoy a board game or lively debate together. The lovely staircase leads from the hallway to four attractive double bedrooms, one with its own en-suite bathroom and a family bathroom, all stylishly presented. Outside, you are spoilt for choice. There is a pretty enclosed side garden or you can enjoy the larger main garden with fruit trees and gorgeous views. If you really want the feel of the great outdoors, then just a very short walk from the barn the owners have a large field which you may use, perfect for boisterous games and letting off steam or simply to sit back and relax and admire the enviable view. With Offa’s Dyke path a mere 200 yards from the barn, you can step out through beautiful countryside straight from your doorstep along the path which runs 177 miles along the border between England and Wales. A short drive will take you to Kerry Ridgeway, where you can enjoy an exceptionally beautiful walk or cycle through Powys and then into Shropshire. The route runs along a ridge top overlooking Wales on the one side and England on the other with spectacular views for the duration of the ride. Before you head back to the barn, be sure to call into the Kerry Vineyard, visit the cafe and perhaps book yourself on a tour and wine-tasting experience. Just six miles away is the historic market town of Montgomery, a pleasant place to explore with its mixture of timber-framed houses, Georgian and Victorian architecture and its hilltop 13th century castle. The bustling town of Welshpool and the medieval market town of Shrewsbury are both well worth a visit, each with their own array of shops and attractions reflecting their cultural past. Ash Barn is a wonderful base for friends and family to explore the lush, rolling Welsh borders, the historic Welsh Marches and the unspoilt Shropshire hills and countryside whatever the season. This property is on the same site as Holly Cottage ref: 961885 and together they sleep 14.

The town of Montgomery sits just one mile from the border of England in Mid Wales. Popular with tourists, the town has a delightful selection of individual shops and a variety of pubs and restaurants, including the Michelin star restaurant, The Checkers, a fabulous way to make your holiday truly special. Pay a visit to the ruins of the 13th century Montgomery Castle, which enjoys beautiful views over the town’s timber-framed houses and cobbled streets, and beyond across Wales. The castle also hosts productions of touring theatre groups regularly during the summer.
