The Old Cider Mill receives glowing praise for its peaceful, idyllic setting and beautifully furnished, cosy interiors. Guests consistently highlight the warm hospitality of the hosts, the well-equipped kitchen, and the thoughtful touches that make for a relaxing stay. The property is especially appreciated for its tranquillity, stunning countryside views, and suitability for those seeking a true escape. While the rural location and access track are noted as potentially challenging for some, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
Guests repeatedly describe the property as spotless, very clean, and well-maintained, with no negative comments regarding cleanliness.
The rural, secluded location is widely praised for its beauty and tranquillity, perfect for a peaceful getaway. Some mention the access track is bumpy and the remoteness may not suit everyone, but most guests found it ideal for relaxation and exploring the countryside.
The cottage is described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with special mentions of the log burner and bath. A few guests noted the bed is a standard double and may feel small for those used to a king size, and one guest found the pillows too soft, but overall comfort is highly rated.
The property is praised for being well-equipped, with a fully stocked kitchen, log burner, and thoughtful amenities. A minor issue was raised about the bath plug and shower, but otherwise, guests found everything they needed for a pleasant stay.
Many guests mention being welcomed with homemade bread, milk, butter, and sometimes wine or fresh figs. The hosts are frequently described as warm, helpful, and attentive. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The Old Cider Mill is nestled in the owner’s land opposite one of the oldest houses in Wales, orginally built for Henry IV as a hunting lodge. This barn itself dates back to 1402 and was built to produce cider for the hunting lodge when Owain Glyndwr, the only native Welshman to hold the title ’Prince of Wales’, was at war with Henry IV. Indeed, the property is thought to have been built specifically for him and there are many original features that have been retained.
The barn comprises of a large open plan kitchen/dining room with fitted appliances and a Rayburn oven. This then leads to a large living area with an electric fire. Upstairs is a double bedroom and a marble en-suite bathroom with a free standing bath.
There are some great views to be had from the patio area of the barn and some lovely wildlife ponds to look over. There is a wild rabbit that comes to visit and eat some of the plants by the barn. Some great walks are to be had directly from the property and lots of open space for your pets to run around, though please keep them on a lead when walking through livestock fields. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

This is the ultimate “get away from it all” location. You get fabulous views of hills and the Wye Valley, your only visitors are sheep and cows. We received a lovely welcome (and a glass of wine plus a loaf of homemade bread!) from Annie, but after that our hosts were wholly unintrusive. There are three gates to negotiate from the A470 to the cottage, about 3-400 metres overall. The farm paths need to be negotiated at walking pace. Do arrive with plans for eating (e.g a hamper!) already made, the nearest store is not a simple walk away (distance is not a problem, but the A470 road can be busy and lacks a footpath). If you want to walk to the pub in Erwood (a couple of miles up the road), cross the A470 about 100 metres up and then cross the bridge across the Wye to get there via the longer but much safer back route. This is a fair old walk however as it takes you beyond the town and you have to walk back along the main road a little, be prepared! We didn’t explore the bus service but that might be a viable option. For oodles of olde-worlde charm, this location is difficult to beat. Would be an amazing retreat for those looking for a creative quiet place!

Excellent communication from Annie who warming welcome us with homemade bread , milk , butter and a huge big smile. A lot of thought has gone into design the barn its tastefully comfortable interior. Well equipped kitchen , large sofa to sit and enjoy the many windows all with breathtaking unrestricted views. Comfortable bed with beautiful linen and bathrobes. Very spacious and airy. Woke up to cows looking up at us ! Made the most of the sunshine by sitting and dinning outside. It’s a great base to explore the countryside. The Old Cider Mill is the perfect location and accommodation to recharge, distress and enjoy the area. Highly recommended On our last we was blessed with an arch of a magnificent double rainbow which illuminated The Old Cider Mill giving it even more of a magical look.
