The traditional hamlet of Painscastle is under 0.25 miles and is well served with a good village inn. For walkers, there are The Begwyns, 580 acres of National Trust hills with breathtaking views across the Brecon Beacons National Park. For the energetic, there are several adventure training providers, where you can rent a canoe, or enjoy a high rope course and gorge walking. Hay on Wye, which is just a short drive away, is famous for its International Book Festival, with plenty of second hand bookshops, an art house cinema and independent shops, as well as The Globe at Hay.
