Guests say

2 Cilwendeg Lodge is generally appreciated for its cleanliness, private hot tub, and games room. The property offers a peaceful location with a well-equipped kitchen and a cosy log burner. Guests enjoyed the secluded garden and the proximity to local attractions, though some noted maintenance issues.

Most guests found the property tidy and well-maintained. However, one review mentioned finding a shaver in the hot tub and another noted dampness due to a leak, slightly lowering the score.

The lodge is praised for its quiet, private location ideal for relaxation, with easy access to Pembrokeshire attractions. The proximity to a pub is noted, but the lack of local shops requires driving.

Guests found the property comfortable, with a cosy log burner and adequate space. The downstairs bathroom was not an issue for most, but the presence of workmen and a main road location affected the score.

The hot tub and games room are highlights, though some maintenance issues like a non-usable pool table and a leak during heavy rain were concerns. The kitchen was well-stocked, but essentials like toilet paper were lacking.

While some guests mentioned a welcome pack with tea, sugar, and milk, there is not enough information across reviews to assess the consistency of thoughtfulness or the guarantee of such gifts.

Back in the late 18th century, an enormously wealthy lighthouse builder built the Cilwendeg Estate, which includes a huge mansion house, now privately owned, and he also restored the long neglected medieval chapel. His nephew inherited the estate and built the most remarkable garden building in Wales, The Shell House, in his uncle’s honour. You will be amazed by this extraordinary Gothic sight in a woodland retreat, the walls are a profusion of seashells and coloured glass fragments! The Shell House and chapel are open to visitors on a Thursday from April to September. There are footpaths through the estate, which still has a working farm, and at the end of a lovely walk they will bring you out at the nearby pub in Newchapel, perfect! The name of the village of Boncath, where you will find the village shop and post office, comes from the Welsh name for buzzard, and you will see plenty around, along with red kites and lots of other wildlife. Beach 9 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub 200 yards, restaurant 2 miles.

Free WiFi

During your final night's stay the owners require access to clean the hot tub and you are therefore kindly asked to vacate the hot tub by 7pm October - March and by 8pm April - September.

The lodge was nice and clean . Hot tub and games room were a hit with the males. Bedrooms nice and house was warm.Kitchen was ok equipped adequately. We did like the lodge and gardens..It would have been nice to have a toilet brush and maybe some toilet cleaner. To help us keep your kitchen clean and bathroom clean maybe provide a spray for this -we are on holiday after all. Same goes for toilet paper - two rolls for ten days? We paid a lot of money to stay it felt a bit tight not to provide the essentials for us.

Unfortunately our experience did not meet expectations. The property looked promising online, but several issues impacted what was meant to be a restful break. On arrival, we discovered a ladies shaver in the hot tub, along with what appeared to be sand or hair. As the hot tub was a key reason for booking, this was very disappointing. Although the host arranged for it to be drained and cleaned of which efforts we appreciated, it meant we were unable to use the facility for the first day. The situation was unhygienic and set a negative tone for the stay. The following day, a workman unexpectedly arrived and started to assemble scaffolding directly on the property while we were staying there. While he was polite and offered to leave, this was a complete invasion of privacy. We also found the property required guests to complete a list of chores before checking out, including stripping beds and carrying laundry. While we are always respectful and tidy before leaving, being asked to do this, especially after finding stained mattresses, was unsettling and left us questioning the cleanliness of the accommodation. This is also not mentioned anywhere online. Overall, the property did not match the description or images online. It felt tired, poorly maintained, and far from the advertised standard. Sadly, this stay fell well short of the relaxing, high quality experience we had hoped for. I really wanted to resolve the issues with the hosts as I hate leaving negative reviews but sadly on this occasion they were not accommodating.

We had a great stay at this lovely property. The place was tidy, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The private hot tub and garden were perfect for unwinding, and the log burner added a really cosy touch—especially with the logs provided, which was a nice bonus. The location is ideal if you're looking to truly switch off—completely private and tucked away in the middle of nowhere. It was exactly what we were after. The games room was a great addition too, with table tennis, darts, and a foosball table keeping us entertined.Overall, a peaceful and enjoyable stay—would definitely recommend to anyone looking to escape the noise and recharge.
