About this property

Llangefni 4.9 miles. Tucked away on the outskirts of Gwalchmai near Llangefni, Anglesey, is this fantastic, detached cottage, Old Tollgate. It was built in 1823 by Thomas Telford to collect the tolls. Thomas Telford also built the picturesque bridge over the Menai Straits. Formerly the tollgate for the Holyhead to Llangefni road and within easy reach of the local amenities, Old Tollgate is a wonderful pet-friendly retreat for a couple, plus their small canine companion who are looking to embark on their next adventure to North Wales. Be welcomed into the conservatory, where on cooler days, your morning coffee can be savoured in an armchair as you bask in the warmth of the electric-effect woodburning stove. Make your way through to the kitchen, where you can look forward to rustling up culinary delights for your loved one, ready to be enjoyed at the intimate dining table for two in the dining room. After a satisfying meal, retire to the plush sofa in the sitting room, where you can snuggle up with your better half and watch a film on the TV, as the open fire crackles nearby. Wash away the day in the well-appointed wet room before wrapping yourself in a warm towel, courtesy of the heated towel rail. When sleep calls, retreat to the lovely double bedroom to catch your rest. Awake from a leisurely slumber and climb the stairs to the first floor, where you can pour in the bubbles and indulge in a soothing soak in the beautiful roll top bath, with the added bonus of a bath tray to rest your favourite book on! Explore your local surroundings, where you will find the welcoming Tafarn Y Rhos just a short drive away, offering tasty meals and local ales, all within a delightful, pet-friendly setting. Continue on towards Llangefni, where there is an excellent choice of eateries, along with scenic walking opportunities along the Afon Cefni and through The Dingle Nature Reserve, a great opportunity to spot the local wildlife particularly red squirrels. For a day at the beach, head over to Benllech where you can bathe on the sands, paddle the clear waters and easily access the delights of the nearby Red Wharf Bay. In the other direction are the beaches and dunes of Aberffraw tn enjoy, which are where Prince William and Kate enjoyed many enjoyable walks. If you and your other half are looking to test out your clubs, the Storws Wen Golf Club is readily available offering 9-holes through impressive parkland as well as Rhosneigr Golf Club also. Further afield, you will find Holyhead, here you can embark on the expansive Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path which boasts some of the best views in the area, along with its own golf club, a picturesque marina and a ferry service which offers trips over to Dublin, a fabulous choice for a memorable day trip! Whisk your loved one for a getaway to Old Tollgate.

In addition to the Town Hall and Clock Tower, which lie beside shops, pubs, and restaurants in Llangefni, the town also includes an art gallery, which is situated along the banks of the River Cefni.
