About this property

Marigold Cottage is a charming end-terrace retreat resting on the edge of the ever-popular town of Clun, offering a cosy base for couples eager to soak up the slower pace of Shropshire life. Thoughtfully arranged over two floors, this inviting cottage blends character with comfort, making it an easy place to settle into from the moment you arrive. Step inside to discover a welcoming sitting room, where a crackling woodburner takes centre stage, ideal for unwinding after a day out exploring the rolling countryside. The compact yet well-equipped kitchen overlooks a small courtyard garden, a peaceful spot for a morning coffee or a quiet moment planning the day ahead.

Upstairs, the mezzanine-style double bedroom rests on the landing, creating an airy, open feel, with the bathroom conveniently leading off from this space. A gentle stroll brings you into the heart of Clun, a picture-postcard town brimming with charm. Here, you’ll find a traditional pub, a friendly café, and a local shop, perfect for embracing village life. Take a wander along the river or explore the atmospheric ruins of Clun Castle, which stand as a reminder of the town’s rich medieval past. The surrounding area is a dream for walkers and cyclists alike, with the breathtaking landscapes of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape and the historic Offa’s Dyke Path both within easy reach.

Nearby towns such as Bishop’s Castle, Montgomery, Craven Arms, and Ludlow offer a mix of history, independent shops, and excellent places to eat, well worth a visit if you fancy venturing a little further afield. Whether you’re setting out on scenic walks, uncovering historic market towns, or simply enjoying the quiet charm of Clun itself, Marigold Cottage makes a delightful base for a romantic countryside escape.

A.E. Houseman's poem, “A Shropshire Lad”, called Clun “the quietest place under the sun”, and with its dramatic ruin of a Norman castle, Saxon church, the bustling river which flows under the 14th Century pack horse bridge, and two country inns, Clun is a rural gem situated in the South Shropshire Hills.

Cottage was good although I agree with other comments about the shower. However, this didn't put us off as this was our stay at Marigold Cottage!

It didn't disappoint this time around. It's an excellent base to plan walks around. The only downside for us is that we now have a dog who was able to accompany us on this holiday but as the cottage is now not accepting pets, we have to accept that Marigold Cottage will no longer be available to us. It is a lovely place to be, both in Clun and in the incredibly cosy cottage.

A few points for owner: not for publication Carpet on ground floor lounge area requires cleaning. Blanket on settee needs replacing because it has holes in it. Fridge needs defrosting or even replacing. We hope you are not offended with this constructive criticism because we really did have an enjoyable stay at Marigold Cottage.
