Guests say

Alban cottage is praised for its beautiful rural location, stunning views, and convenient access to Edinburgh and Glasgow. Guests appreciate the cosy, comfortable atmosphere, friendly owners, and well-equipped lodge, making it ideal for both families and work stays. While many found the property clean and inviting, some noted areas needing a deeper clean and minor maintenance. The peaceful setting, proximity to local amenities, and charming wildlife add to its appeal. A few guests mentioned the lack of a welcome pack and suggested improvements to outdoor spaces, but overall, the property offers a delightful and relaxing retreat.

Most guests found the property clean and comfortable, but several reviews highlighted issues such as cobwebs, dust, and the need for a deeper clean in some areas, particularly the kitchen and bathrooms. Bedding and towels were sometimes described as worn or rough. The majority of guests were satisfied, but consistent feedback suggests room for improvement.

The location is widely praised for its tranquillity, beautiful countryside views, and easy access to Linlithgow, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. Guests enjoyed the rural setting with convenient transport links and local amenities nearby, making it a standout feature of the property.

Guests frequently commented on the comfort of the beds and the cosy atmosphere, especially with the log burner. However, some mentioned uncomfortable lounge seating and the third bedroom being less private and not a true room. Overall, comfort levels were high, with only minor drawbacks.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, with positive remarks about kitchen facilities, parking, and heating. Some guests noted maintenance issues such as worn furniture, lack of outdoor seating, and the need for better cleaning. The third bedroom's layout and storage were also mentioned as areas for improvement.

Several guests noted the absence of a welcome pack or local treats, which are sometimes provided at similar properties. While the owners were described as friendly and responsive, gifts or extras are not guaranteed at this property.

Alban is a gorgeous property in a stunning location with lots of potential. It is advertised as luxury accommodation, but fell short of the mark in several areas. We have been fortunate to stay in other luxury locations of a similar price point or less, so our review is based on our experiences. Firstly, the welcome pack - there was none. An information book (which was very useful), does not constitute a welcome pack. As guests, we would have appreciated a pint of milk and possibly some locally sourced treats (as this has been our experience). Secondly, cleanliness. Whilst the bedrooms, communal areas and bathrooms areas of use were clean, the lodge could do with a really deep clean as cupboards, window ledges and anything that needed moving was not clean. Thirdly, the towels. Very rough and obviously not tumble dried. Fourthly, the 3rd bedroom is not a bedroom. The description does state that a curtain divides this section from the rest of the lodge but it is a bed behind a curtain. Finally, declutter. The kitchen in particular had the most random of items shoved away in the drawers. Replace the sofas, please. The outside space would also greatly benefit from being tidied with some hedging to enclose the area for the use of the guests. Also, why the summer house sheds? We were hoping to find bbq facilities or some lovely outdoor furniture to put out, but no. Just a sad collection of stored items (that other guests may have needed such as travel cots and high chairs). But all of this could be organised in a much more aesthetically pleasing (and clean) manner. The views from the property were stunning and we loved to watch the sheep graze and mooch about in the fields.

The location of the chalet is absolutely beautiful, and its a shame that the property itself us in such desperate need of some TLC both inside and outside the property Unfortunately the chalet felt quite tired and in need of some attention The kitchen in particular was in need of a deep clean which took away the overall enjoyment of our stay The outside area could have been absolutely lovely and has so much potential but it is not well maintained A proper seating area would make such a huge difference rather than the current makeshift arrangements of a few stone chipsWith some investment maintenance and a thorough clean the chalet could be transformed into a much more enjoyable and welcoming holiday property

Great views and quiet location.Owner responded quickly when we had a problem with wifi. There is not much privacy in the bedrooms which could be a problem if it is not a family sharing.
