Carrick's historic capital, Maybole, has a documented history dating back to the 1100s. The town hall, which dates back to the 19th century, and Maybole Castle, which is believed to date back to the 1560s, make the high street particularly eye-catching. Once a hub of shoe production, the community today offers a variety of stores, taverns, and a parish church with a striking orange stone exterior. It's about 5 miles from Ayr, the capital of Burns Country, which has a plethora of shops, restaurants, and other attractions. Culzean Bay, with its magnificent castle and wonderful grounds, is only 12 miles distant, while Galloway Forest offers good hiking options within easy reach. A fantastic, tranquil setting from which to explore Scotland's stunning West Coast.

    Fantastic cottage.

It had everything we needed & more. In fact it provided more than any self catering accommodation we have previously stayed in. I am referring particularly to kitchen appliances, utensils, crockery & glasses etc - everything we needed. Large fridge/freezer too. :0) Wifi was perfect & there was a good sized TV. (40 inch I think) This particular cottage was close to the sandy beach (5 minute walk). You can easily enjoy a leisurely walk along the beach to Maidens harbour in one direction & towards Culzean Castle shoreline in the opposite direction. It is very popular with locals for walking their dogs & we even witnessed some horse riding along the beach during our stay. We would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation & we ourselves plan to book more National Trust for Scotland properties next year & in future years because of their high standards.
