Situated in an idyllic location with direct access to the Caledonian Canal and stunning views of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor mountain range, these detached lodges (refs W8146 and W8664) make an ideal holiday base for touring the Highlands and the west coast of Scotland. Fort William is known as the ’outdoor capital’, and is home to the World Mountain Bike Championships, Excellent climbing, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and walking are popular outdoor pursuits. Golf fishing, kayaking and sailing are also available nearby. The area is famous for its breath-taking scenery, used as a backdrop in many film, including Braveheart, Rob Roy and the Harry Potter movies. Many of the islands including Skye, Mull and Iona can be reached by short ferry crossings and the steam train to Mallaig makes for a great day out. Wildlife is abundant with golden eagles, porpoises, red deer, otters and pine martens often spotted. There are many historic castles, monuments, sandy beaches, gardens and museums to explore. This is a great base for exploring the stunning local scenery around Fort William. It’s a short drive from the nearest pub and eatery, and Fort William. The log chalet was beautiful and compact, although the double room was quite small. There was a spiral staircase to the huge twin room upstairs. We ended up in the room upstairs as the double was too small for us and our son had the double. There was a lovely balcony in that room and also a lovely space at the front to sit out too (unfortunately we didn’t really get the weather or opportunity to do that). It was useful to have the washing machine and there was a clothes hanger, washing line and pegs. an iron, ironing board, hairdryer and freezer (all the latter items not mentioned by cottages.com). We cooked for four nights and completely filled the small fridge (got a Tesco delivery which arrived the first evening). There was a short walk to the canal from the chalet. Donna was very responsive and friendly. She lives nearby so popped around at the beginning of our stay to welcome us and towards the end of our stay to ask if we’d enjoyed our holiday. Donna left shortbread and other sweet treats. There was also salt and pepper, and vinegar. There are washing up liquid, tea towels, clothes washing tablets, etc which was useful. We went on the Jacobite steam train, to Tobermory, up the gondola up Aonach Mór, on a speed boat on Loch Linnhe (Ocean Trek), walk to Steall Falls, Ben Nevis distillery, the Crystal and Fossil centre, Neptune Staircase and a couple of museums, visitor centres and walks. Sounds a lot but we could recommend it all and also had time to chill out and relax too.

An amazing holiday. The views were stunning. The lodge was perfect for us, very comfortable and the owner was very helpful, thankfully, as I left a pair of earrings, which she is posting back to me. I would definitely recommend to family and friends. Thank you so much, batteries are well charged.
