Lovely quirky cottage, warm and comfy, basic welcome package was a lovely touch.Only negative was the steep stairs which l was unable to climb. My wife and I had to sleep separately!

Nice quiet village and beautiful beach a couple of minutes walk away from cottage. Easy parking. Nearby Dornoch is lovely and with good facilities.Pictures did show that cottage was quirky but it was more so than expected. If both bedrooms were used somebody would not have an armchair to sit in.The kitchen equipment is also quirky and much of it is elderly. I have never stayed anywhere that did not have dinner plates! A charity shop provided a pair of equally quirky plates which we left for the next visitors. Not sure why we got a key code when there is no key safe and so we had to leave door unlocked and keys inside when we left as lady had gone out very early in the morning. Don't get me wrong - the place is nice but in hindsight not really our cup of tea.

The cottage is eccentric and charming as a first impression, with quirky art and beautiful features. This impression deteriorates as you realise that it is partly a self-catering cottage and partly a dumping ground for the owner's stuff, accumulated in the 1990s by all appearances. Large pieces of furniture take up a lot of space and are packed to the brim with random stuff. For example, next to the bed there is a suitcase with army fatigues in it - why?? There is no space in the kitchen to store food - we ended up putting things in the oven to get them out of the way. Tables are wobbly, chairs uncomfortable, mattresses past their best...it's a shame, because this could be delightful. And the close proximity to a stunning beach is a huge selling point. But we did not sleep very well here, which is the main reason why I would not recommend this cottage to others. In addition to the troublesome interior, communication was not very good. We were given the wrong code to access the key, and we had been told that we could park in the drive, but upon arrival this was not allowed. It was also never made clear what parts of the garden we could use, which is important because the cottage sits in the enclosed back garden of a larger house (not the impression I got from the photos). We had no place to dry our beach towels, for example, and we weren't sure if we could use the garden furniture that was out. It's an awkward arrangement. I am sorry to be so negative, but it was an expensive 3 nights for us, and not value for money.
