Culpee House is a spacious, characterful cottage in Newton Stewart, praised for its excellent location close to shops, restaurants, and riverside walks. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and beautiful, secure garden ideal for families and dogs. The property’s period charm and ample space are frequently highlighted, though a few guests note that some furnishings and décor are a little tired. Overall, visitors enjoy a relaxing and memorable stay, with many planning to return.
Most guests found the property very clean, with particular praise for crisp linen, fluffy towels, and a well-maintained environment. A small number of reviews mentioned isolated cleaning issues, such as greasy oven trays, but these were exceptions rather than the norm.

A comfortable, *interesting* period house, furnished comfortably with everything we needed. The gardens are lovely and well-maintained too - great to sit out in. We were impressed with the written welcome pack emailed prior to our stay by the owners - a great starter for exploring the town and wider area. The near-riverside location is quiet but only a short walk from the town centre, pubs, places to eat and the supermarkets. Thanks!

An absolutely fabulous home from home. More space than you will ever need, full of character and in the perfect place. If you are going to Newton Stewart this is the only place to stay

We stayed at Culpee for 3 weeks and had an enjoyable time. Less than a 5 minute walk and you are into the centre of Newton Stewart, which has lots to offer and yet sitting in the garden, you hear nothing unless there's been a lot of rain and you can hear the water flowing over the weir, which was the case for us during our second week. Yes, as previous comments have pointed out, it is a little 'tired' and needs a little bit of TLC, but we felt the price we paid reflected this, as a house of this size would be more expensive. We loved the big, spacious kitchen and the beautiful garden, the beds were very comfortable. If we had to criticise anything it would be that the main bedroom was very over-furnished, making pulling the curtains a little difficult, having to lean over easy chairs to reach both windows, but overall we enjoyed our stay. Good communication from the owners and I hope the cleaners appreciated that we had left the house in the clean condition we had found it.
