Snaptrip says

Kouloura is a well-received cottage, praised for its cleanliness, comfortable amenities, and large garden. Guests appreciate the proximity to the beach and local pubs, with many highlighting the secure garden as ideal for dogs. The owner's warm welcome and helpfulness are frequently mentioned, adding to the property's charm. While some guests noted issues with the sea view and proximity to a caravan park, the overall sentiment is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage is consistently described as clean, with spotless bedding and well-maintained facilities. The attention to cleanliness contributes significantly to guests' comfort and satisfaction.

The location is generally appreciated for its close proximity to the beach and local amenities. However, some guests felt the sea view was overstated and the property's privacy compromised by nearby caravans, leading to a slightly lower score.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and a warm atmosphere without the need for additional heating. The conservatories are a highlight, although some guests found the seating in the TV room limited.

The facilities are well-regarded, with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, and open fire. The large garden is a standout feature. Some criticism was directed at the Wi-Fi connection and water pressure, slightly affecting the score.

The owner's thoughtfulness is evident through the warm welcomes, local recommendations, and gifts such as wine and biscuits. While these gestures are greatly appreciated, it is noted that such gifts are a kind touch but not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A large, detached, well-presented cottage in the coastal village of Southerness, with its own extensive, enclosed garden, with sea views. With the two-mile stretch of sandy beach just a short stroll away, this Southerness cottage is the ideal place to explore this beautiful area of Scotland's coast. This Southerness cottage boasts two conservatories, one with a sea view, in which you can relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. A double bedroom in this Southerness cottage is complemented by a second family bedroom with two sets of bunks, making the cottage ideal for families and groups of friends. In addition to exploring the fascinating and beautiful coast, from this Southerness cottage you can venture inland to walk and cycle in the Galloway Hills and their forests. Why not spend some time at the RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve or the Barend Riding Centre, both close to this Southerness cottage. With plenty of golf and fishing nearby, this Southerness cottage offers the perfect place to explore, be active or simply relax and enjoy the coastal atmosphere. There are also three fabulous pubs nearby, two of which serve food.

Established in the late 18th century, the village of Southerness looks out over the Solway Firth and forms part of the Colvend coast. Home to two pubs and a village store, the seaside village also boasts two miles of sandy beaches with dunes, rock pools and warm Gulf Stream waters, as well as one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland. Built in 1748, this beacon was one of the first in the country. Nearby Criffel Hill is an impressive 569m tall and offers varied walks with wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary. The Southerness Championship Golf Course is definitely worth playing for its panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District and the Galloway Hills.

Our 2 dogs loved the large garden that goes right around the cottage, which was safe and secure for them to explore. There is everything you could need to cook a nice meal, great TV and 2 lovely conservatories for some quiet time. Pubs and beach are within an easy walk. Owner is very helpful and friendly.

Also a welcome visit at the end of the week to ensure that I was okay. The house was clean, tidy and well layed out with all facilities needed for a weeks stay. Even the starter bag of logs was a thoughtful touch. Dog absolutely loved the big garden, not often I can let her off lead but garden was doggy secure, though we did get the local bunny visiting each day. Within easy driving distance to some wonderful countryside and though the weather on the final few days restricted travelling, the nearby beaches made amends. I can definitely see myself returning time and time again. A definite home from home. Thank you.

It is clean, comfortable and spacious. Sandy, the owner, is incredibly welcoming and is generous with his time and advice, giving us lots of information and suggestions about places to go and eat, which were a great help and ensured we got the most out of the location and our holiday. Kouloura is a fantastic base for everything the local area has to offer; the beaches (all so different), woods and hills provide fantastic days out for all the family. The pubs, arcade, shop and fish and chip shop so close by were brilliant and great on an evening. Even with these so close by, Kouloura has its own, enclosed large garden and is incredibly peaceful, just a couple of minutes walk from the beach. We had an amazing time time at Kouloura and didn’t want to leave. Our 3 boys have already asked if we can return.
