Cowar Bothy has been completely refurbished in 2022 and is wonderfully cosy and delightfully furnished throughout. The spacious open plan living/dining/kitchen has a large wood burner perfect for those chillier winter evenings. From the living room windows, look out over the enclosed garden and beyond over open farmland where you can marvel at the wonderful countryside views. Upstairs the style and quality continues with a large super kingsize bed (zip and link) boasting quality linen and a wonderful modern en-suite shower room. Cowar Bothy is the perfect location for a relaxing getaway surrounded by stunning countryside in this beautiful corner of southwest Scotland.
Whilst you have the beauty of the stunning countryside at Cowar Bothy you are only a few miles from the charming little town of Dalbeattie with its array of small shops whilst Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town, with an abundance of independent shops selling produce and quality gifts. Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas have a number of cafés, pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal in, as well as an excellent butchers and food shops for you to sample the local produce.
This area of south-west Scotland is hugely popular with walkers and cyclists of all ages. The world famous 7Stanes mountain trails at Dalbeattie Forest offer some of the best mountain biking in the country and attracts riders from across the UK and beyond. For the walking enthusiasts there are many paths and trails throughout the forest as well as some magnificent walks along secluded beaches or dramatic cliff top.
Warmed by the Gulf Stream there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens National Trust and interesting historical sites and castles to explore. Enjoy a drive from Dalbeattie along the Solway Coast with its extensive sandy beaches, rocky coves, traditional fishing villages and harbour ports, such as Kippford and Rockcliffe. Beach 9 miles. Fantastic accommodation. Lovely location with far reaching views. Well equipped. Good WiFi. Comfy beds. Hosts were very friendly and helpful - they even Chihuahua-proofed the Bothy’s private garden for us.Couldn’t fault it.

From the home baked loaf, eggs and milk to the attention to detail when it comes to comfort, Scott & Jo offered us a wonderful relaxed holiday. The weather was mixed and we spent more time than usual in the accommodation, but it was so comfortable, spacious and quiet we were delighted. Bird feeders just outside the lounge window gave us many hours of pleasure, particularly when the woodpecker came with a chick to get fed.

Very clean and comfortable cottage in a very peaceful location and a lovely garden around the house. The cut paths are handy for walking a dog around for a pre bedtime wander. The owners are very welcoming and the added effort to prove some home made bread, milk and eggs was a lovely touch. The location is a few miles from shops or eateries so you will need to drive a few miles to get that. Previous reviews have mention a very potholed road. These were filled in whilst I was there, so not an issue now.
