Guests say

Old Sawmill Cottage is highly praised for its beautiful riverside setting, cleanliness, and comfort, with many guests expressing a desire to return. The property's peaceful location and the presence of wildlife add to its charm. While some minor maintenance issues and the lack of Wi-Fi are noted, these do not significantly detract from the overall positive experience.

The majority of reviews highlight the cottage's cleanliness, with only a few isolated comments on areas needing improvement, such as oven cleanliness and cobwebs. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is consistently described as beautiful and peaceful, situated by the river with abundant wildlife. Its proximity to Castle Douglas and other attractions is also appreciated.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, particularly praising the luxurious beds and the cosy atmosphere. The comfort of the seating by the river was mentioned as an area for improvement.

Facilities are generally well-received, with positive mentions of the kitchen and bathroom. However, some maintenance issues like a leaking skylight and hot shower problems are noted. The lack of Wi-Fi is a drawback for some guests.

There are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to provide a score for thoughtfulness.

Right on the river’s edge, you could not ask for better views. Comfortable inside, and within easy reach of Castle Douglas. A great base for anyone exploring the Dumfries and Galloway area. Lots of places to visit in the area. The dishwasher was out of action during our stay sadly. No Wi-Fi so that impacts any streaming services available , and the mobile signal was poor in the area so could not access a hotspot.

There's plenty of outdoor seating and a sun canopy for when it's hot outside. The garden isn't enclosed so just be aware if taking dogs that like to wander. The setting is idyllic and a very relaxing place to be. There's no WiFi and the network signal is very hit and miss. The Cottage itself has everything that could be needed during a stay and the bed is I think the most comfortable I've ever slept in.
