About this property
With a lovely balcony to soak up the afternoon sun, this converted cornmill is ideal for a restful break in lovely surroundings!. Set in a wonderful location, the upside-down layout takes full advantage of the gorgeous views over the surrounding fields, with a contemporary glass fronted balcony accessed from the cosy open plan living area and kitchen on the first floor. A perfect spot to relax in the afternoon sunshine over a glass of something, while planning the next day’s excursion in this lovely part of Scotland. Downstairs are two bedrooms, one of which has French doors leading to a patio at the front, whilst at the back of the cottage, the garden with small, unfenced stream is accessed from the kitchen door.
Set just on the outskirts of the pretty village of Fettercairn, the cottage is within an easy walk of its shopand cafe. The Gothic Arch in the village centre is a memorial to a visit by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1861 on a route to Balmoral now known as the Victorian Heritage Trail. This famous trail takes in the scenic Cairn O Mount road revealing spectacular panoramic views over Angus and Aberdeenshire. The village also boasts its own distillery where visitors can take tours and sample the local dram.
There is a wealth of beautiful countryside in the surrounding area, including the Angus Glens leading deep into the Cairngorms with great walking, climbing and mountain biking. To the east there are pretty fishing villages, cliffs and excellent beaches at St Cyrus, Lunan Bay and Montrose. The area has lots of great sightseeing opportunities, including whisky tours, fishing, golf, castle visits, paddle boarding and sea safaris, to name a few, so you will definitely want to book a return visit!.

The accommodation was really well equipped, clean and in a really nice peaceful location. Susan and Bill were both very welcoming and provided lots of information about the local area. During our visit we managed to see and do a variety of different things from visiting the nearby St cyrus beach, walking in the local countryside climbing Clachnorben and visiting a local castle.There was so much to see and do we would definitely recommend a visit to the Old Mill and we look forward to visiting again.

The cottage was wonderfully perfect!!Before arrival I received communications from the owners with details about travel and keys - and also about what weather to expect. There was a welcome pack which was amazing after our 8hr drive to the place, but also it's worth saying that everything had been thought of. There were info packs and leaflets for the area so we had plenty to look at and choose from. Even the small details had been considered - I've been to some places where maybe a tin opener or an oven glove wasn't available, only small things really, but here they had been considered and it made that extra bit of difference. The cottage was warm without being too warm, and cool enough without being too cold too. It was spotlessly clean and was beautifully decorated. The decorations in fact gave us a fun challenge, there were photo canvases of local areas on display and we made a point of tracking down as many of the places as we could to see the beautiful scenery for ourselves. The layout of the cottage has the bedrooms and bathroom downstairs, with an open plan living/dining area and kitchen upstairs, and access to a balcony for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. The cottage is located on a small road which leads to other farms, but it was a better road than 90% of the roads I travel on, and it was a quiet road too, meaning there were no early morning surprises from heavy machinery. The village of Fettercairn is small and comfortable with a shop and cafe close by, but big enough to get lost going for long walks. Road access isn't a problem and the cottage had ample parking for my VW Transporter. It looks like there are regular events on in the area, we just missed the village fair/show :(. Outside of Fettercairn we visited lots of castles and hiking trails, and even the seaside too - yes, a beach in Scotland in June, and it was great!!Susan and Bill, the owners, were lovely. As well as the comms received in advance, Susan was happy to answer any questions we had and also got in touch on the last day to wish us a safe journey. We also got treated to look at a restored VW Beetle which was immaculate. All in all I would highly recommend this cottage. The cottage is fabulous, the area is gorgeous, the owners were brilliant. We would love to get back there soon!!
