About this property

Silver Darlings is a traditional, detached stone cottage nestled in the centre of Whitehills, Banffshire. With the marina just around the corner for stunning sea views, as well as easy access to more classic fishing communities along Scotland's north east coast, the cottage is an ideal getaway for a group or family of six. Off-road parking ensures an easy arrival on the quiet, residential street where this beautiful cottage awaits. Leave muddy boots in the porch area before stepping into a pleasant sitting room; set your snacks on the coffee table and start the electric fire for a snug movie night, with a plush corner sofa to sink into, or settle among the cushions of the inviting swivel armchair with a good book. A self-catering cottage, you'll find excellent amenities in the kitchen/diner to prepare home-cooked meals, with seating for six guests to enjoy dinner together, as well as a handy washing machine and a coffee maker to kick-start your mornings. All three bedrooms are beautifully finished with ample storage space for walking gear and large mirrors to get ready with ease; a ground-floor double offers two guests’ extra privacy, whilst upstairs another double and a twin are bright and airy thanks to large Velux windows. Freshen up before bed in the nicely-appointed, contemporary bathroom with a bath for longer soaks in the bubbles, or a shower over for quick morning routines. At the front of 1 Chapel Lane, a garden area is perfect for picnics on the lawn, whilst amenities and attractions await in Whitehills; on your doorstep, you'll find a convenience store to stock up the cupboards, a welcoming pub to take a break from cooking and a popular seafood restaurant overlooking the picturesque marina. The busier town of Banff is a short journey east with larger supermarkets, as well as Duff House, a stunning Georgian estate hosting exhibitions and a fantastic golf course. Cross the quaint bridge over to the neighbouring Macduff village for fish and chips along the harbour and visit Macduff Marine Aquarium. Drive west for day in Portsoy, where budding historians can discover artefacts of the village's history, as well as a nearby hidden gem, the 16th-century ruins of Boyne Castle. Travelling further west along the coast brings you to the ruins of Findlater Castle overlooking a small, sandy bay, with spectacular coastal walks for dramatic sea views and the idyllic Sunnyside Beach, a long stretch of sand backed by cliffs and sand dunes. Enjoy the traditional seaside villages of Banffshire from the wonderful cottage of Silver Darlings. EPC Rating: Band E

Whitehills is just one of the numerous charming fishing communities dotting Scotland's magnificent north east coast. The community has a local bar with tasty meals, as well as a grocer's, seafood shop and a highly respected restaurant by the marina. The village's new marina is a popular location for boats, particularly yachts and pleasure craft. Whitehills is conveniently located three miles from Banff and five miles from Portsoy.

Everything was very clean and well cared for. The kitchen was very well equipped. After a day out, the cottage was warm and cosy with brilliant local amenities. The Rockfish cafe and the Premier shop are just up the road and both provided excellent food. The pizzas from Auntie Meg's, in the Premier shop, were excellent, as were their ready meals and soups for sale.

Some days it would have been nice to have been warm when we came in from the rain. Although there was a fire in the living room, it was cold elsewhere. The handle on the toilet cistern did not work properly, it had to be pumped and held down to flush. The oven and grill were sticky and stained. Apart from that we had no complaints, we had a great holiday and just sorry Silver Darlings won’t be available next year!

We had everything we needed and the welcome pack, including milk in the fridge was a nice touch.
