    Ballater Holiday Cottages

The Victorian village of Ballater sits on the River Dee, just east of the Cairngorm Mountains in Aberdeenshire. A centre for hikers, Ballater holiday cottages are frequently booked by adventurers and explorers looking to rest after a long day outdoors. There are several spa resorts in the region thanks to the health-benefits of the local spring water. The village centre itself is almost entirely Victorian architecture and is a designated conservation area. In the evening Ballater comes to life, with buzzing bars and restaurants with outdoor seating.

Our Ballater holiday cottages range from smart properties at the heart of the village – ideal for families – to spacious, pet-friendly lodges. Looking for something extra special? Meall Darroch is a charming property that sits right at the River Dee's edge, so you can fall asleep listening to the cascade of water outside.

Gainlea House is a truly magical place.

Perfectly located within Ballater to walk into the town & enjoy all the amenities on offer and walks within the area. The house itself is absolutely lovely. The fixtures & fittings within the property itself are first class. The sofas are plentiful & comfortable. The dining room is a lovely place to eat meals & the table mats & coasters just lovely. The kitchen has all that you need to prepare food although it’s easier with just 1 person in the kitchen at a time as it does have a pinch point, although in saying that we managed perfectly well all week. The bathrooms are great, having the added bonus of a shower room downstairs & a bathroom upstairs. The water pressure is great so the showers were just fabulous and you then get dried on fluffy white towels! The beds were large & comfortable adored with crisp white sheets to ensure a good nights sleep. There is plenty of storage for clothes & everything you need for a comfortable stay. The garden is shared with Gairnlea cottage but we didn’t find this a problem. We had wall to wall sunshine all week and it was nice to sit out in the beautiful garden every day & chat with our neighbours who we enjoyed meeting. All in all I would 100% recommend & would definitely visit again if visiting that area.

Thank you for your hospitality, our stay was amazing, it was a warm comfortable stay.

After lots of days out and about the beautiful surrounding area it was great knowing we were coming back to a relaxed quiet home with all the facilities we needed. We appreciated the information leaflets for trails, which we took advantage of. We also enjoyed dining out, takeaways and using the kitchen with all the equipment we needed. The amenities were described accurately with some extra nice touches. My dog loved all the walks and the secure garden. Check in and out was simple, secure and the whole experience was fantastic. It was affordable for me, but does fluctuate at certain times of year, so if the price is right I have no doubt I will return.

This cottage is very much a home from home - just what we needed for having a relaxing break.

We have explored the area quite a bit and being able to come back to the cottage and enjoy a relaxed evening was just what was needed at the end of our days trekking. The timed heating and hot water were very welcome eliminating the need to 'remember' to turn these on ready for when it was needed. The cottage is ideally placed for getting to the many places of interest in the area easily by car and we enjoyed putting out walking shoes on to explore the walking routes from Ballater. Thank you for providing a lovely place to stay Jacqueline, we would certainly stay with you again when in the area.

We had such a lovely stay at this little cottage, the photos really don’t do it justice.

A lovely warm little house in a superb location, the kitchen was well stocked with the little things that you always forget to take like cling film. Lots of walking on the door step, would really recommend a walk round Lock Muick too. Some reviews say that the parking is difficult but we didn’t struggle and our cars massive, just pull past and reverse on to the drive. Only thing missing was some outside furniture but admittedly we had unseasonably warm weather for March so there may be some in the warmer months!

The reason for marking down the listing was for a small, but important, point.

The house is attached at right angles to a single storey cottage (let out by the same owners), and both face into the shared, beautiful garden. It’s not clear from the listing that you are in such close proximity to another let (perfect if you rent both for a larger group). The house is beautiful, and the furnishings are stunning. My comments above are to make others aware. It won’t affect your holiday, but highlighting so it doesn’t take you by surprise. Fabulous stay.
