Guests say

Wychwood is a well-loved cottage praised for its comfort, especially the heavenly beds, and its well-equipped kitchen. The property's location is ideal for exploring the North Yorkshire moors and coast, with a particular appeal to steam train enthusiasts. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, including welcome packs and dog treats. While some maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Most guests found Wychwood clean and tidy, with fresh flowers and a well-presented property. However, a few guests mentioned areas that needed attention, such as dust and an unpleasant kitchen smell, which slightly lowers the score.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its proximity to Whitby, the North Yorkshire moors, and coast, as well as being moments away from steam railways. Its setting in a friendly village adds to the charm, making it an excellent base for exploration.

Guests consistently mention the comfort of the beds and the cosy atmosphere of the cottage. Some concerns about a chilly downstairs room and a bed with inadequate slats are noted, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

The property is well-stocked with kitchen equipment and games, and guests appreciate the garden and wood burner. However, maintenance issues such as a non-locking bathroom door, a problematic shower, and suggestions for improvements like a downstairs toilet affect the score.

The owners' thoughtfulness is evident in the welcome packs, dog biscuits, and fresh flowers. While these gestures are warmly received, it is noted that such gifts may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

The owner, Danielle, was incredibly helpful when we needed her and there was a really lovely welcome pack on our arrival, as well as tea and coffee. The local pub and shop were friendly and there are some lovely walks from the cottage door. The only issue is that the hot water is scaldingly hot so needs caution!

The property benefits massively from its own parking space and if you know the village then this is a massive plus point. Overall well equipped cottage and we were very happy with our stay and the welcome box of goodies was really appreciated. We found the kitchen well equipped to do whatever you need to do and all the appliances worked well I found the log burner a challenge to keep lit - mastered it towards the end of our stay tho and it kept the lounge really warm and cosy. The bedroom downstairs was the only one we used and found the mattress super comfy ! No issues at all getting a good nights sleep after days out walking. There are plenty of walks direct from the property - for a short one would recommend waking the old Toll Road (Barnards Rd) into Egton where you can get food and drink a plenty! It’s also a couple of mins walk to the local pub The Station Tavern who serve excellent food and proper ales - try the Parmo !! The village co-op is also right on the level crossing and stocks pretty much everything and you can withdrawn cash from the Post Office inside when it is open. Further afield it’s a relatively easy walk on the old railway track bed to Beck Hole or Goathland. Do check opening times of the Birch Hall Inn at Beck Hole if you plan this - and it’s cash only. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a brilliant former iron workers cottage which is well appointed well equipped and clean and tidy. If you do have any issues then the owners are quick to respond either by text or call. There is no wonder it is rarely available ! We will be back !! Thanks again Mark, Di and Oscar the retriever.

Great location, very warm and comfortable! We intend to return at some point and recommend this property as a lovely place to stay! There was a power cut one evening which meant we were without Central Heating for one late night, however, the owner came the following day and restored the heating promptly. All in all, a very nice stay and would recommend definitely!
