Guests say

The Merry Gull in Whitby is a beautifully decorated and spacious cottage, praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and peaceful yet convenient location just a short walk from the town centre. Guests appreciated the comfortable beds, stylish interiors, and thoughtful touches. While the kitchen is noted as small for larger groups and there was occasional mention of drainage smells, these were minor compared to the overall positive experience. The property is well-suited for families and groups, with off-road parking and plenty of amenities, making it a popular choice for return visits and recommendations.

Multiple reviews highlight the property as exceptionally clean and well-maintained throughout, with no significant complaints about cleanliness.

Guests consistently mention the excellent location, being peaceful yet only a 5-15 minute walk into Whitby town centre, with easy access to local shops and attractions.

The beds and pillows are frequently described as incredibly comfortable, and the house is noted as spacious and cosy, suitable for families and groups.

The house is well-equipped and has amenities such as a log burner and multiple bathrooms. The main drawback mentioned is the small kitchen for larger groups and occasional drainage smells, but overall facilities are praised.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as slippers, wine, tea, coffee, milk, and even a Christmas tree. Please note that these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

A party of 8 people and 1 baby, stayed here for a long weekend. Kitchen was on the small side and it was so hot the weekend we came, so cooking was limited as such a small space. However the quirky house makes up for it. Every room is nicely decorated. Plenty of furniture for a large family. Beds are very comfortable. Helps having a toilet on every floor. Off road parking for one car but the adjoining streets were all free parking, which saved us a lot of money. It was a heat wave when we went and there was plenty of large fans. I would definitely recommend this house, nicely presented, clean and a great location, literally 10 minute walk from the station.

Had a lovely stay. The house had everything you could need. The location was perfect, very peaceful and quiet but only a 10/15min walk into the centre of Whitby. The beds were super comfy. We loved the decor and would definitely recommend to family and friends

The Merry Gull was a great for what we needed. Location perfect , it is up a hill so be mindful , but only a short walk 5-10 minutes into the town and close to a coop. Clean throughout Beds were incredibly comfy and the pillows were amazing Main shower was great Kitchen small so be mindful for the fact the house can sleep up to 8 , but we ate out most of the time.Added touch of slippers , bottle of wine and some tea and coffee The only negative was there was quite a lot of drainage smells from the kitchen , but nothing a plug in air freshener wouldn’t fix.Overall would definitely stay here again Parking for one car so others staying either have to find on street parking or pay at the local car parks but no huge issue
