About this property

Hawsker 1 mile. This endearing compact stone cottage, an annexe to the owner's home, is close to the small village of Hawsker and just three miles from both Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. With glorious garden views towards the sea and Abbey, this delightful property is perfect for couples wanting to explore the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors and the dramatic heritage coastline. Imaginatively converted, The Hayshed provides rustic and quirky accommodation, with the use of reclaimed timber and exposed stone work. Full of charm and character, there is an open plan living area, with stripped wooden floors and a bespoke hand-crafted kitchen with retro appliances. The large picture window throws in plenty of sunlight and houses the glass dining table, where guests can sit and enjoy a meal whilst admiring the views. In the comfortable sitting area, there is a cosy electric stove creating a warm and homely feel for a romantic night in. With superb attention to detail, the bespoke timber staircase leads up to the double bedroom and an en-suite shower room. Across the drive, guests have private use of an enclosed meadow garden; a lovely spot to sit with a glass of bubbly and watch the sun go down over the sea! A few minutes’ drive brings you to the ancient fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay, with its steep, winding cobbled streets lined with quaint cottages tumbling towards the sea. Explore the hidden coves, stroll along the beach, or take an invigorating cliff top walk along the long distance Coast to Coast trail. The popular seaside town of Whitby has long, sandy beaches, a beautiful historic harbour and its famous 199 steps leading up to the Abbey, perched high on the cliffs. Partake in afternoon tea in one of the cafes, sample the restaurants, including the very best of fish and chips, or enjoy a cocktail in one of the trendy bars. The cobbled market place and narrow ginnels are a joy to meander around, with lots of independent shops and a wealth of local inns. With both the countryside and the coast on the doorstep, this gem of a property is one not to be missed!

The pretty village of Hawsker is situated half way between Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay, just two and a half miles from each, making it an ideal base from which to explore the area. Set on the National Cycle Network and the Whitby/Scarborough Railtrail (Cinder Trail), Hawsker provides a great base for walkers, cyclists and lovers of the outdoors. The superb coastline in this beautiful part of Yorkshire, and the spectacular North York Moors are well worth exploring, as is the fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay and the ancient port of Whitby. With its winding streets and hidden alleys, Whitby is a charming atmospheric town with a picturesque harbour, long, sandy beaches and the famous Abbey, reached by the 199 steps! The accommodation was very conveniently placed for Whitby, Robin Hood"s Bay, and Scarborough. The enclosed paddocks were a bonus for our dog, who also had a great time. The cottage itself was very comfortable and very well equipped. Highly recommended.
