The First Port of Call in Whitby is highly praised for its cleanliness, prime location, and comfortable setting. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the thoughtful touches like tea, coffee, and biscuits. While the shower size received mixed feedback, the overall experience is deemed enjoyable, with many looking forward to returning.
Guests consistently note the property's immaculate condition, with clean bathrooms, kitchens, and common areas. The provision of extra towels and bedding is also mentioned positively.
The property's location is frequently highlighted as a strong point, being close to the beach, Whitby bay, pubs, restaurants, and transport links. Parking challenges are noted but do not detract significantly from the experience.
The apartment is generally found to be comfortable, with a good living area and amenities. However, there are comments about the bed size and linen, which suggest that while most guests were comfortable, a few had concerns.
Facilities are well-received, with a fully equipped kitchen, smart TV, and washing machine. The small shower is mentioned, but it is not seen as a major issue for most guests.
Thoughtful gestures like providing tea, coffee, and biscuits are appreciated, though it is politely noted that such gifts, while delightful, are not guaranteed for every stay.

Many guests return to Whitby year after year as there are so many sights, attractions, and fascinating history to discover. Whitby is a proud seafaring town, with a colourful history; you can find out more at the museums or even first-hand up at the abbey ruins. Walk through the whale bone archway on the West Cliff or visit the shipwreck on Saltwick Bay and look up into the cliffs to spot the smugglers’ tunnels. For those who wish to experience the wonders of this inspiring area, why not walk amid the scenic beauty of the North York Moors National Park, which can be accessed by the heritage steam train winding its way through the rolling hills of heather. You can also explore quaint coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes or Runswick Bay. Take in the sights along the seafront at Filey, Scarborough or Saltburn. And if you’re a history buff, take a trip into York to soak up the culture brought by both the Romans and the Vikings. Closer to home, you are just a leisurely stroll away from the many attractions the popular seaside town of Whitby has to offer, including the long golden stretch of sandy beach, the 199 steps up to the St Mary’s Church perched on the cliff top, the boat trips around the bay and the freshly caught seafood which can be enjoyed in many award-winning restaurants. Really enjoyed our stay Lovely accommodation except the settee was really uncomfortable and the central heating very noisy in the bedroom as it came on and off at all hours and lastly why all the cushions didn’t know where to put them all but would definitely go back

A great place to use as a base, with Whitby a great town to explore (make sure you look down every alley way) there’s always something of interest. I must mention the Quay restaurant, the staff are superb, with a great knowledge of allergies, nothing seems to be to much trouble for them.Whitby is a great place to stay, explore or relax just totally enjoyable. As a southerner, Yorkshire people are pretty friendly too.

An honest review👍, The First Port of Call was superb.beautifully presented, clean with everything you need.Tea,Coffee,Sugar and biscuits👌provided just bring milk👍 Kitchen had everything you need and bathroom and shower was all nice and clean and perfectly adequate. I have read some reviews saying the shower was too small but to be honest it’s wasnt huge however it all really depends on how big the person is in it🤔🤔.Smart TV in lounge with a bed settee and a lovely breakfast table in the bay window to start the day on. All in all a lovely apartment and excellent value.Location wise it was pretty much spot on for Whitby, the beach was 5 mins walk away and Whitby bay, pubs and restaurants about 10 mins walk. Train and bus station about the same. Only thing to be aware of is parking. Whitby is a busy, poplar seaside resort and even though you get parking scratch cards provided, which again is excellent, expect to double park and unload before searching for a space and you may have to park up a little way from the apartment.Tried to be as honest as possible but The First Port of Call is absolutely lovely and was an absolute pleasure to stay there. We look forward to returning soon👍
