With spectacular views over stunning countryside, this Danby cottage provides a wonderful romantic retreat for couples wanting peace and tranquillity within easy reach of the seaside town of Whitby. Very welcoming, this Danby cottage exudes warmth and character, with exposed timbers, stripped floorboards and sloping ceilings in the bedroom. The cosy, open plan sitting area boasts a warming woodburner to snuggle around on cooler evenings. Nicely furnished and decorated, this Danby cottage provides very comfortable accommodation in a beautiful setting. The Danby Moors Centre lies two miles away and is well worth a visit, with its interesting exhibitions and displays, complete with tea room, whilst the coastal fishing village of Staithes is just ten miles away, with its cobbled streets and cottages tumbling down towards the sea. Danby is a charming village located towards the head of the Esk Valley. At the heart of Danby is the village green where Scotch Blackface sheep keep the grass down all year round. The village itself is well served by a pub, a bakery and café, a village store and a post office. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park has a visitor's centre just outside the village. Here visitors can learn something of the history of area and be directed to all manner of walks from a short stroll to longer treks for serious ramblers. There are quite often demonstrations of local crafts and farming skills in the area. North of the Moors' centre lies the valley of Clitherbeck where coal mining used to take place.

If you truly want to get away from it all, this is for you. There are shops a short drive away in Castleton, and stunning countryside on the doorstep. The Cottage is rustic and stylishly fitted out, cosy, and with a comfy bed and Chesterfield sofa. Sarah, the host, is very friendly and whilst she is happy to chat, she will leave you be whilst you're away. Her dog, Ted, is lovely, too. We'll be going back.

For the money I expected a few luxuries, like tables beside the bed to put a cup on, not a dressing table with no access under the roof beams. It would have been nice to have a mirror with a shelf for makeup that was lit enough to see and/or a dressing table. The sofa was so slippery it was barely possible to sit on. The kitchen had the basics but I felt, as in other reviews sadly, that I had to wash things before use. The cupboard cupboard for food had sticky shelves which I covered in paper towel and the frying pans had to be washed before use to get rid of the grease still on them. One of the lamps didn’t work and had a broken plug. Thankfully the bed was comfortable and the shower worked well. The bathroom was very clean. Generally though, I’m afraid, it was not à comfortable experience and we did not wish to linger longer. I was shocked to find that the cottage that I had paid a lot of money for, for 3 nights, was definitely not the end to our holiday that I was looking forward to. I paid almost half of this to two other companies and they were well appointed and pristine- a hotel and a private accommodation.
