About this property

Tucked away in the seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire, lies this traditional circa 1750 Georgian fisherman's cottage. Storm Cottage, a Grade II listed building, boasts a fantastic location with views from the top bedroom of the sea and the harbour. Within the North York Moors National Park and only a stone’s throw from the sandy trails of the beach, Storm Cottage is a great base for couples, families, or friends to enjoy a coastal getaway. Ascend the quaint cobbled path, you will notice the private patio area where you can enjoy a refreshing drink after a day of exploring. As you enter inside, discover the country style kitchen equipped with all the essentials for a self-catered stay; enjoy mealtimes around the large dining table, or out in the private garden. After dinner, kick back and relax on the sofa as you catch up on your favourite shows on the Smart TV. Continue through to the ground-floor bathroom, where you can have a soak in the tub, before retiring to one of three spacious bedrooms, two doubles or a lower-ground floor family room (this will be a twin room from September 2024). Head down the path into town where you will find the harbour and an abundance of restaurants, pubs, and shops, as well as a magnificent beach where you can swim, surf or paddle board the days away. Continue to Robin Hood’s Bay and admire the National Trust site of The Old Coastguard Station, immerse yourself in the local history at Whitby Museum or tour the grounds of Whitby Abbey. Further afield, be sure to take a day trip to Pickering where Pickering Castle and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway await; or get up close and personal with marine life at the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough, home to award-winning sandy beaches, breathtaking coastlines, and a great variety of family attractions. For a marvelous stay in North Yorkshire which offers an idyllic blend of coastal and countryside, choose Storm Cottage.

At the mouth of the River Esk in North Yorkshire's Scarborough region sits the seaside town and port of Whitby. The area is perfectly positioned for visiting this stunning region of Yorkshire, and it offers a wide range of activities so you can make the most of both the countryside and the seaside. There is something for everyone in this area, from the adjacent North York Moors to its Blue Flag beaches. Among its many attractions, Whitby has a beautiful ambience with meandering streets and obscure alleys that are home to a variety of restaurants and businesses. Visit the charming harbour and lighthouse to watch the sun go down or go whale watching or on a coastal cruise to see the wildlife up close. To immerse yourself in history, ascend the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey or go to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, which features a historical and anthropological display about Cook himself. Whitby is a fantastic location for discovering all that Yorkshire has to offer. It is close to Robin Hood's Bay, rich in history, wonders, and scenic areas, and is easily accessible from the thriving towns of Scarborough and Middlesbrough.

Beds were very comfortable and the towels and bed linen were clean and abundant. The location was right in the heart of the town but nestled behind a pub, cafe and fishmonger so a little noisy and smelly as the smoking area of the pub was directly outside the lower bedroom window. The house is definitely in need of a deep clean. Despite detailed instructions on how to dispose of rubbish there were no orange bags at the property to be able to do it. We had a wonderful stay in Whitby but not because of our accommodation and won’t be booking again.
