About this property

South View Cottage is a superb, detached house in Sleights village, nestled between the splendid Yorkshire coastline and the equally stunning North York Moors – both easily accessible being only a short drive away.

This property is ideal for those seeking a comfortable and spacious base from which to explore beautiful North Yorkshire.

Relax in the lovely south-facing gardens with friends and family. Take in the wonderful countryside and enjoy life in this pretty coastal village - Sleights boasts two inns, traditional butchers, bakers, grocers, hairdressers, antiques emporium, church and fish and chip shop.

It is a delightful place to unwind and refresh.

An entrance porch leads to the excellent kitchen with granite work surfaces and gorgeous limestone flooring, there’s everything you’ll need here to rustle up a family meal. The adjacent dining room with cast iron gas stove, polished wood floors and garden view, is a charming place to enjoy good food and conversation. Retire to the comfortable sitting room where a woodburning stove provides real cosiness in the cooler months, especially after a bracing coastal walk!

A utility room and separate cloakroom complete the ground floor.

On the first floor, the bedrooms again feature polished wood floors and comprise, a charming double bedroom with delightful long distance views of the nearby hamlet of Iburndale and the North Yorkshire Moors, a lovely twin bedroom and a single bedroom. The bathroom includes a bath and an impressively spacious walk-in power shower – delightfully invigorating, at any time.

Step outside to discover the splendid ‘south view’, the property’s namesake: a south-facing garden, with lawn, established borders, trees, a terrace and BBQ with seating. What could be nicer than a night-cap as you watch the stars appear in the clear Yorkshire night skies.

Nearby, Whitby awaits. Offering a beautiful blend of old world charm, seaside fun and fascinating maritime history – it’s easy to see why visitors return year after year, captivated by sights such as the iconic Abbey, St Mary’s Church, gorgeous sandy beaches, old town and thriving harbour. Whitby is also known for some pretty amazing gastronomy.

The cottage is perfectly situated for moorland walking. Or further afield, the market towns of Helmsley and Pickering make a pleasant day trip, the latter accessible by steam train from Whitby or Grosmont.

Whatever you choose to do, a holiday at South View Cottage is sure to leave you feeling refreshed.

The ancient fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire, with its superb coastline and close proximity to the spectacular North York Moors. Whitby is a charming and atmospheric town of winding streets and hidden alleys, with a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and of course the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps.

There is a nice walk into Whitby through the fields and catch the train back to within 50m of the property. (One comment, we are bird lovers BUT a sparrow and pigeons have roosted in a bush just outside the main bedroom window. EVERY day we were woken at 4:30am by incessant cheeping.......!! )

We enjoyed our stay at south view cottage plenty of home comforts but found the sofas could do with a upgrade. Also perhaps a light on the steps going down to garden, our dog Lily loved to be in the garden but once it went dark we couldn’t see where she was. Also need a blind in bathroom as felt a little on show with the light on
