Guests say

Mariners' Rest is a beautifully presented cottage in Whitby, praised for its excellent location within easy walking distance of the town centre and attractions. Guests consistently highlight the property’s cleanliness, spaciousness, and well-equipped facilities, with ample parking and delightful views of passing steam trains. Thoughtful touches such as welcome gifts and flowers are frequently mentioned, adding to the warm and homely atmosphere. While a few guests noted minor maintenance issues and occasional discomfort with beds or showers, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, making this a highly recommended choice for families and groups visiting Whitby.

The majority of guests found the property very clean and well presented, with several reviews specifically praising the high standard of cleanliness on arrival. Only a couple of minor comments suggested areas for improvement, such as a kitchen deep clean, but these were exceptions.

The location is universally praised, with guests loving the easy, level walk into Whitby, proximity to attractions, and scenic views. The setting by the train line is seen as a bonus by most, adding character without causing disturbance.

Guests generally found the cottage comfortable, with positive remarks about the beds, sofas, and spaciousness. A few mentioned lumpy beds or minor issues with temperature in showers, but these did not significantly detract from the overall comfort.

The property is described as very well equipped, with ample parking, a secure outdoor area, and thoughtful amenities for families and pets. Some minor maintenance issues (e.g., shower temperature, balcony, lampshades) were noted but did not impact the overall positive impression.

Many guests appreciated the welcome gifts such as wine, flowers, bread, and milk, as well as the owner’s accommodating nature. While these gestures are frequently mentioned, it should be politely noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

They only run a few times a day and do not disturb at all. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It would benefit from a small calendar to show which bin should be placed outside which day of the week (it’s Tuesday). The blackout blinds in the top bedroom are a boon - but the centre top one is faulty and does open or close properly. The kitchen knives could do with sharpening, or provide a sharpener.

The location was ideal as everything was within walking distance and parking was directly outside the holiday home. Once again a perfect holiday home booked through Sykes.

Stayed in a few different properties in Whitby but this is the best by far. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.
