Snaptrip says

Craigmore is a well-regarded holiday cottage in Whitby, praised for its stunning sea views and excellent location. Guests appreciate the spacious rooms, well-equipped kitchen, and the property's proximity to the beach and local amenities. While some guests have noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Cleanliness has received mixed feedback. Some guests reported unclean grills and ovens, and dusty radiators, which affected their experience. However, the rest of the house was found to be fine upon inspection, and the linen and towels were clean.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views, proximity to the beach, and good bus service. The scenic walk into Whitby and the area's suitability for fossil hunting are also appreciated.

Comfort is generally well-received, with comfortable beds and great outside seating areas mentioned. However, some guests found the sofas and the cottage's access road less satisfactory.

Facilities are seen as adequate, with a well-equipped kitchen and spacious rooms. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as non-functional showers and a need for refurbishment, which suggests room for improvement.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate the thoughtfulness of the host, therefore this category cannot be scored.

About this property

Enjoying an elevated position overlooking the sea and the coastal village of Sandsend, North Yorkshire, is this magnificent property, Craigmore. Affording unbeatable views and sought-after off-road parking, Craigmore provides a wonderful place to call home whilst holidaying on Yorkshire’s striking Heritage Coastline. Step inside and discover the kitchen, amply-equipped for home-cooking, whilst the separate dining room is perfectly formed for mealtimes. After a hearty meal, pop on the dishwasher and head to the lounge, complete with ample seating and a large window that provides a simply stunning vista. To get a better view, head outside to the multi-level garden, with a patio set at the top inviting alfresco dining, whilst there is more to explore further down. Make your way upstairs and find the bedrooms, offering two double rooms – one super king-size bed with zip/link beds, which can be arranged as a twin on request, a king size bed with dual aspect windows and a stunning view down the beach - and a pretty single room overlooking the woods.. You won’t have to worry about morning queues as Craigmore offers two bathrooms and a ground-floor shower room! Get to know your surroundings by having dinner at the Fish Cottage then heading to the Hart Inn for a cold beer or glass of wine. Lace up your walking boots and join the stunning Cleveland Way National Trail, spanning through beautiful landscape and scenery, head out onto the Yorkshire Moors, or on a warm day, pack up your seaside essentials and wander down to the award-winning beach, where you can kick back on the golden sands whilst the little ones build sandcastles and go rock pooling. Just a few miles along the beach (not at high tide!) is Whitby, where you can spend time strolling along the Whitby Harbour, soaking up history at Whitby Abbey, browsing the independent shops and art galleries or testing your golf swing at Whitby Golf Club. Slightly further along lies the seaside town of Scarborough, which is home to the famed Scarborough Castle, the Italian Gardens, and Peasholm Park, all of which are picturesque places to visit while enjoying a leisurely day by the sea. Towns worth visiting include Pickering and Malton. Choose Craigmore as your next base in North Yorkshire.

A charming bay, golden dunes, and a harbour can be found in Sandend, a little historical community that dates back to the 1600s. Sandend is one of the smallest fishing communities on the north east coast, but because of its close proximity to the larger communities of Portsoy and Cullen, it enjoys the good amenities offered there while maintaining a calmer and more serene atmosphere. Although Sandend town lacks stores and bars, it does have a fantastic smokery, so there is never a shortage of fresh fish, and towards the east end of Sandend Bay, the Glenglassaugh Distillery offers whisky tastings. The several charming fishing towns strewn along the north eastern coast, each of which has its own history and first-rate local amenities, are easily accessible from Sandend. Golfing, fishing, sailing, surfing, cycling, birdwatching, and beach strolling are other activities available in the vicinity. The beauty in this part of Scotland is breathtaking no matter the weather.

The house is in a fantastic location with great views along the beach towards Whitby. The house has spacious rooms with a great size kitchen and is well equipped. There are lovely gardens to the front of the property. We will be returning again.

Owner has responded to suggestions which has further enhanced the experience. The owner was also very helpful prior to, and during, our stay. A big positive! The house is handy for all local amenities and the bus stop. Great views down the coast to Whitby from inside and on the patio. Had a great stay, and would love to visit again. Thank you.

The showers don’t work well. Downstairs toilet and shower is not working right. Mouldy shower upstairs. The radiators were thick with dust. I could hardly breathe in there as I have mild asthma which was made worse by the dirty radiators. The blinds are all dirty. The curtains should be black outs to help sleep. The couch downstairs was not very comfortable. The kitchen is basic and functional but very old and tired. Glass broken in internal door. Big Mirror upstairs in single bedroom is just placed on the chest of drawers. My daughter was closing a drawer and the mirror nearly smashed on her, that mirror needs putting on the wall for safety. The hair dryer is probably 30 years old, it’s rubbish. The carpets feel old and dusty. The gate is old and rotten and the lock has rusted off. The beds were comfortable and the linen and towels were clean. The views are amazing and the proximity to the beach and restaurants of Sandsend is perfect. House just needs a major refurb, it doesn’t feel like anything’s been done for 20 years.
