The cottage is named after one of Whitby’s famous residents, the oldest known poet in England. Caedmon was an illiterate cow herder who lived in Whitby back in the medieval days. One night after a busy day tending to the cattle, he had a dream where he was singing beautifully and it filled his heart with joy. When he woke he began creating songs and poetry. The locals heard him singing and they were inspired by his incredible talent. Word spread and he became an accomplished and much admired poet. He joined the monks at Whitby Abbey, writing hymns and poems about God and today you can see his memorial cross outside St Mary’s Church. Beach ¾ mile. Shop and pub 20 yards, restaurant 25 yards.

Lovely cottage. Good location. A little cramped for 4 to eat at the table. Parking can be an issue. We managed to park free from Sunday and left the car for rest of week.

Great little cosy cottage. Lovely main shower. Great for our stay. Hot water and heating worked perfect for this time of year (tried to only heat when needed and not to silly levels as I hear some guests at holiday cottages do!!)
