No smoking. . This Victorian terraced town house was built when Whitby became a highly fashionable spa resort. Abbeydale Town House, has been renovated to a very good standard retaining many of its original features. Whitby is known for its quirkiness and its many little alleyways and ginnels that take you down to the seafront. A busy working harbour awaits with a small vibrant fishing fleet that bring in their catch on a daily basis. Just around the corner from the harbour there’s a large sandy beach, great for all ages with donkey rides, sandcastles and rock pools. Perched on the hilltop is Whitby Abbey, famous for many reasons but one is the fact that it has 199 steps from the old town to the abbey. The Cleveland Way passes through Whitby as it follows the coastline down to Filey. It’s a stunning walk along the rugged clifftops and down into the small coves. For those who like a more leisurely stroll there’s the Cinder Path which is the old railway that goes from Whitby to Scarborough, over 20 miles of flat walking. The resorts of Robin Hood’s Bay, Sandsend, Staithes and Scarborough are all a short drive away. Abbeydale is a great base to visit the east coast, the North York Moors and the Wolds. Beach 500 yards. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

The property is in a great location for the beach and town centre and for this reason we would book the property again. However the property is in desperate need of some attention. The carpets are very dirty, there is insufficient matching crockery, cutlery and glasses. Having to go out and purchase glasses whilst on holiday is not what you would expect. There are no wardrobes and insufficient drawers. Having to live out of your suitcase is again not what you would expect. There were no scratch cards which many visitors have mentioned and even though I raised this with the office prior to our stay, they were not available. Too many other bits and pieces to mention here but raised with Cottages.com to pass to the owners. Let’s hope they act on some of these points so that other visitors can enjoy the property.

There are two many issues to go over it was the worst place I have ever stayed, the only plus point was that cottages.com team were amazing and did their best to help and the maintenance man Elliott was a credit to them absolute top draw I would recommend cottages.com all day but the property was a disgrace

Lovely spot and well equiped property. The only couple of downsides were that the promised parking scratch cards were not there but the local office dropped onw off very quickly and the advertised outdoor seating area is non existant!
