About these Holiday Cottages

Gold Award-winning Basin Howe Farm Cottages are situated on the southern edge of the North York Moors just over 1 mile from Sawdon village near Pickering, elevated above the Wolds within easy reach of the Yorkshire Coast.  Accommodation includes four stunning cottages converted from two large barns.  All cottages sleep four guests, and each has its own unique charm and character with three featuring en-suite facilities and one with a modern wet room offering disabled access.  The cottages are surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens, and the area is perfect for coast and country touring with a wide choice of walking, cycling and birdwatching opportunities locally.  We're also a top spot for star gazing. 

Amber Cottage (Disabled Access)

Single storey Amber Cottage is a stunning property with a double height lounge and vast windows.  Character oak beams and oak flooring give this property the extra 'wow factor', and an open plan staircase leads up to a mezzanine floor.

There is a spacious ground floor bedroom and 1 twin bedroom located on the mezzanine.  A stylish wet room has level/ wheelchair access and a cutting edge thermostatically controlled shower.  The kitchen features all self-catering essentials.

This property has wheelchair access inclusive of double doors with a low threshold, plus a gentle sloping path direct to the cottage from the car park.

Topaz Cottage (Dog Friendly)

Topaz is a real architectural gem brimming with period features including stone walls, wooden beams and arched windows.  Two spacious bedrooms both have en-suite facilities and the kitchen is bright and fully equipped to cater for all your needs.  Downstairs is all level, with a ground floor bathroom, ideal for our less mobile guests.

One well trained medium sized dog is welcome in this cottage, and Topaz can be linked and booked in conjunction with Amber Cottage to sleep up to 8 guests.

Jade Cottage (Dog Friendly)

Beautiful Jade Cottage has a superb large lounge with huge windows and character solid oak flooring.  A spacious kitchen is well equipped.  Both the lounge and kitchen feature oak dining tables, making each a perfect spot for dining. 

The two bedrooms on the first floor both benefit from en-suite facilities. One has a wrought iron king-size double bed and wonderful views through a feature window towards a burial mound.  The other is a stylish twin with metal beds.  A furnished patio area is to the front of the farmhouse with views towards the parterre and the Wolds.

Opal Cottage

Opal Cottage is a real gem with a cosy woodburner, stone and brick walls and oak flooring.  The spacious, light kitchen/ diner is fully equuipped, and Opal has a unique decking area overlooking one of our two ponds. 

Two generously sized bedrooms include a super king-size double with zip and link beds on the ground floor (can be a twin if preferred), and a second king-size double with a wrought iron bed, exposed beams and an en-suite shower room featuring its own staircase.

Facilities/ Unique Features

Three acres of award-winning landscaped gardens surround the cottages containing a box parterre, lawns, seating areas and pretty herbaceous borders.

All bed linen and towels are provided.

The site features a unique Pod Summer House which has wonderful country views.

A playhouse/ Wendy House is also onsite.

WiFi internet access is available in each cottage.

All four cottages are non-smoking.

Oil fired central heating is in all properties.

Brand new deck on the mound.

Private water supply

Cot and highchair available.

A separate laundry area is onsite.

Secure bike storage facility.

Guests can enjoy our two large onsite ponds around which children will need supervision.

A well behaved dog is welcome in Jade and Topaz Cottages.

The four cottages are available from March to October annually. 

Around and About

Between coast and moors with plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling or taking scenic drives to picturesque villages. Hop on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway or visit Go-Ape at nearby Dalby Forest.  We can advise you on lots of things to do and places to visit and the cottages sit close to the new Moors to Coast cycle route.

Directions

At Brompton by Sawdon take the turn opposite the farm machinery shop signposted Sawdon.

Follow this road all the way through the village past the Anvil Pub on the left and later the village hall on the right.

Continue on this road for around a mile passing the T Junction on your right at Granary Farm. 

After approximately half a mile you will pass Sawdon Heights Farm on the left.

Basin Howe Farm entrance is about 400 yards further on, on the left with our big blue sign at the entrance.

Follow the lane up to the farm.
