About this property

A superb 17th century barn conversion close to the villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden and the Peak District National Park. This semi-detached cottage is set within 15 acres of the owner's farmland and enjoys the benefits of the peaceful rural location. Renovated to a very high standard with original features throughout such as mullioned windows and exposed beams, the cottage provides spacious accommodation ideal for large groups of friends or family to enjoy the Peak District and surrounding area. The ground floor provides a wonderful space to enjoy each other’s company, boasting a large kitchen with ample dining space flowing into the stylish sitting room featuring a woodburning stove and French doors opening out into the large, enclosed lawned garden. This floor is complete with a bathroom and double bedroom, allowing for a comfortable stay if any of the party struggles with stairs. On the first floor, there are three bedrooms enjoying fabulous countryside views and a characterful modern shower room. Walks into the countryside can be enjoyed from the doorstep, or why not take half an hour's stroll down to the charming village of Slaithwaite where you will find delightful independent shops and its restored canal. Two miles away the bustling moorland village of Marsden can be accessed easily by car, as can the ever popular village of Holmfirth, famous for being the setting for the Last of the Summer Wine. Holmfirth provides a great range of traditional and new pubs, as well as many varied eating establishments. Visitors of the area are encouraged to visit the majestic city of York and Harrogate for a day out, perfect for a day shopping or simply taking in the sights and sounds or the many attractions including York dungeon or Harrogate's Turkish baths. This Slaithwaite cottage is a wonderful base for exploring exceptional areas of the country including the Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and beyond! Note: This property is next to Ref 915369, together they sleep 18.

The traditional West Riding village of Slaithwaite is set in the Colne Valley in the South Pennines, just six miles from the picturesque market town of Holmfirth. Full of history, the village retains several buildings from the mid 15th century, including Slaithwaite Hall, one of the few surviving cruck frame structures in Yorkshire. The viaduct dominates the skyline and is an awe-inspiring sight, whilst the village centre is very pretty with the restored Huddersfield Canal winding through and a lovely selection of independent shops, self-brewing pubs and eateries, where you can sample local fare.
