The property, and the adjoining Old Chapel have been converted by the owners to a very high standard, and level of comfort. Indeed, you get the impression that you are taking part in TV home design program! Unfortunately there are some small irritating features. The two en-suite facilities and the downstairs cloakroom - although of a very high standard - lack space for toiletries etc (eg the large washbasins use practically all the surface area of its base - so you end up with toiletries precariously balanced around the basin). A storage shelf and some hooks would make life easier. Secondly, both bedrooms - although very comfortable - are much smaller than the photos imply. The beds are large and comfortable but there is very little space between the furniture to move around. Thirdly, small waste bins in the bedrooms and en-suites would have been appreciated. A useful and easy addition would be a second matching bannister on the left side. As an elderly person I found it hard work getting up and downstairs - although I was aware from the photos that there was only a single bannister and was prepared to cope because we liked the look of the property. Would we book the New Chapel again? If we were a few years younger - like a shot! Now, with some mobility problems, probably no. However, despite the niggles, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in what must be one of the most memorable conversions of a historic building. (A little less wind and rain would have helped though!)

The conversion is very stylish and a clever use of space. Generally very clean except for a crumb-full toaster and gunky washing machine powder/conditioner drawer, both easy to sort. Kitchen very well equipped for self-catering very well, as ever personal choice would have loved a tea-cosy, admittedly a rare thing these days! First impressions weren't quite so good, although quickly overcome. The plans we had seen showed external cycle storage, so when we found 2 bikes in the cottage, complete with helmets, we did think someone else was staying there for a few seconds. The next thing we saw was a notice about checking out and a demand to strip our beds and put sheets/towels etc. in laundry bags. This made me feel contrary and want to start muttering about 'paying for clean cottage, not cleaning it' but I did strip the beds in the end! Then we found a note justifying the lack of ornaments and books. Actually don't mind about ornaments at all, the cottage just doesn't need further decoration. But if those bikes went outside where they belonged there would be room for a lovely bookshelf. Holiday cottage books are great! There were a couple of wooden furniture/storage units that in many cottages would contain board games/DVDs etc. but which had little or nothing in them, which we felt was a missed opportunity. Got past all that and really did enjoy our week in a lovely cottage and superb area. Beverly Minster, Sewerby House, RSPB Bempton Cliffs, Spurn Point and the Wilberforce House and Sreetlife Museums in Hull were all highlights, and we loved the charm of Hornsea Mere, Town Museum and seafront. Thanks for a great stay.
Barbara
We have stayed in the Old Chapel a couple of times, thought we would try "next door" for a change - both are lovely conversions. There are still places we want to explore in the area so will be back!
