    Driffield Holiday Cottages

Great Driffield - shortened to Driffield by locals - is a market town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, northeast of Leeds and east of York. Nicknamed The Capital of the Wolds due to its central location in the Yorkshire Wolds, it’s a lesser-known holiday spot brimming with charm.

Founded in the Saxon era, Driffield has always been a thriving hub for the Wolds, presenting a unique blend of sleepy rural aesthetics alongside a rich history and culture. The Georgian glamour of Sledmere House and its 500-year-old tower is a favourite photo hotspot and the town’s pubs are reputedly haunted – with landlords and locals always keen to discuss the legends of each. Driffield’s markets are packed full of the region’s finest local retailers and it's easy to pick up any ingredient you might need from small independent businesses, offering you a ‘proper’ Yorkshire meal. Varying walking routes along the riverside and through the Wolds make Driffield holiday cottages popular with those of all abilities and ages.

If you’re interested in holiday cottages in Driffield, you can be sure of great value from Snaptrip, where every booking is protected by our best price guarantee. What our customers say about their holidays

    • Janette - Verified booking

My husband and I arrived at ‘shire cottage’, on the 6th October for a 3 night break.

On arrival In the village we were very pleased that we had chosen such a pretty location, unfortunately we cannot say the same for the property we had booked. We were first struck by the condition of the outside decking, dirty, unswept covered in moss and looked as thought it had not been maintained or cleaned for some time. Entered the property and could instantly detect the smell of damp. Also noticed how dirty and grubby the sofa and armchair was., the arms were pitted with black dirt and the seat area was badly stained. Main bedroom floors looked dirty and noticed the divan bed base looked dirty and had no valance sheet, although did have on advertised pictures. Entered shower room, there was a dirty mop and bucket left under shower head on equally dirty floor. The grout on the floor and walls in some places was black ( the owner confirmed this when I complained as being the builders fault when he installed the tiles, and not used the correct grout and was never able to get it looking clean) there was also limescale stains on floor ., the owner also stated that this was due to the problem with the tiles and has not had time to rectify this and ‘it is what it is ‘, his words. The other bathroom had a bubbling effect behind the door and paint was peeling, which was why we could smell damp throughout the property as this was quite a large area of damp. The owner agreed, once again in his words, “that the wall in the bathroom is blown”, but we are making it clean and tidy till we get there, along with the maintenance of the shower, which are on our list for a maintenance period.. these issues should surely be addressed before allowing visitors or at least make visitors aware so that they can make their own decisions as to whether they stay there or not. The smell made us feel really sick, we did not use the bathrooms at all. The toaster was rusty snd stained., whilst I understand that this is a minor issue to some people .. how can’t you put bread into a toaster that is rusty and unclean, he said he can’t be expected to swap a toaster after every visitor and the reason it was rusty was because of the sea salt in the air caused things to rust ., twenty minutes from the coast in an enclosed building? The beams, ceilings, blinds and cooker hood were covered in cobwebs. We only stayed one night and left as soon as we possibly could, we stayed a total of 14 hours. We would have left immediately had we not travelled over 3 hours to get there. We had trouble contacting anyone as the internet would not work in property ., we tried to boost router but did not help.. We did not get a response until the morning, where I was advised that he would appoint his cleaner to return to re-clean, these problems could not have be remedied in this way as he had already confirmed that he needed time to arrange a maintenance slot to rectify issues. As we had not slept or showered we decided to leave and were on our way home. We contacted Sykes numerous times on our way home they advised us that could not help at all with complaint they would pass on our complaints and pictures to owners. When I contacted them again after receiving no response they sent me a copy of correspondence that the owner had sent Sykes stating that he would not be refunding and payments as he deemed our complaints to be frivolous .. the issues I’d raised were going to be dealt with when he could fit in maintenance and that he thought they only reason I had complained was because I wasn’t happy with the area. Absolute disgrace. What a complete and utter waste of money and time.

We hired the Blue Bell for 38 all female family and friends for a surprise weekend for my daughter’s 40th birthday.

It was absolutely perfect! We decorated the large function room and hired a DJ and Supreme Photo Booths - both excellent. There is a brilliant bar area where all our guests stored the drinks they’d bought with them. The kitchen facilities were great with loads of fridge and freezer storage space and 2 double ovens where we prepared and served a cooked breakfast on Saturday morning and chicken and chips in the afternoon after enjoying a televised dog racing game in the afternoon in the snug area next to the dining area. On Friday evening we ordered fish and chips from Nafferton Fisheries in Driffield - they gave us a fabulous service - great communication before the event and delivering their hot and tasty food on time. For our party on Saturday evening we’d ordered a load of platters from Morrisons which is only a short drive away. The Blue Bell is in a lovely small village and many of the ladies enjoyed a long walk on Saturday morning including the grounds of Burton Agnes Hall. Communication with the owners and housekeeper prior to arrival and during our stay was excellent - they couldn’t have been more helpful. Several guests enjoyed using the hot tub in the lovely grounds at the rear of the property. There were no complaints from any guests who all said they had had a fabulous weekend. The property was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed for a marvelous celebratory time. It was excellent value for money and our guests said they could not believe how we had managed to put the weekend on for the price that they had paid. I would have no hesitation in recommending this venue. Do not expect luxury but if you want a large, clean, comfortable and functional large space to hold your event and sleep your guests at the right price - this is for you.

The cottage is in a nice location, with views across a small field , with the road beyond.

The cleaning is excellent and the seating, beds and general furnishings are good. Whilst a ground floor bedroom was great for us, the two steps up into the bathroom were not mentioned and did present a problem. The kitchen was badly designed when installed and there is not one cupboard available for self catering guests to put there own items into. These items, therefore, take up a large proportion of the worksurface . The problem with the property was the lack of general maintenance, which had not been addressed for some considerable time, as well as lack of attention to detail. Three torches were said to be in the property. There were none. This was reported, but none appeared during our stay. (It is very dark in the property at night) The kitchen tap was continually dripping and this had been pointed out to them by previous occupants two months earlier. (The kitchen is next to the downstairs bedroom, so this doesn't help sleep.) The back door lock was ineffective and the door opened with a slight push, thus placing possessions at risk of theft. The outside areas had seen better days. The front patio needed urgent attention to the surrounds. The rear garden, was full of large weeds, living and dead brambles and various rotting metallic ornaments. Not a pleasant place to sit and relax. The owner says that they are unaware of some defects, as they do not live locally, but they need to be more proactive. If they sorted these matters, it would make it a place worth staying at.

Myself and my son (9y with additional needs) needed some R&R so we booked this rural looking cottage and took our 2 dogs.

The cottage itself was lovely with views across a paddock. Unfortunately, there was renovation work going on next door but one, from early morning until dark, involving electric saws etc so it was very noisy. We booked Mon - Fri but left on Thursday. On Thursday I was awoken with banging on the roof at 7:30am. I went out to investigate and it was someone cleaning out the gutters. I got up and let the dogs in the paddock opposite, as advertised. One of my dogs started yelping as if she’d been ran over and she came to me with 3 deep wounds, 2 in her legs and one in her side. I rang around vets and managed to get her booked in for a general anaesthetic and stitches which cost over £600. I messaged the owner who said the paddock was now out of bounds and she would be over tomorrow. We left after her operation on Thursday night as we had had enough.

The cottage is lovely and in a fantastic location for great walks, quiet beaches and a rainy day trip to York was within an hour.

The hosts are incredibly welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My only criticism, which was unique to us and you cant tell from the pictures is that the house is next to a 60mph B road, with the main bedroom window opening onto the road, which seemed to have quite a bit of traffic from 7.30am. So if you are an early riser then this won't be a problem, but if you are hoping for a bit of a lie in on your holiday (as we were) then we found that element a bit frustrating. Other than that, the cottage is lovely and in a fantastic location with a nice meadow and pond behind the house, with plenty of space for the kids to roam. There's even a resident Barn Owl which was a real highlight!
