The adjacent Antlers cafe is a highlight, offering convenient dining options. The village's friendly atmosphere and local pubs add to the charm. Some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, but overall experiences suggest a cosy and enjoyable stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found Buttercross Cottage to be clean and well-presented, with fresh towels and a welcoming atmosphere. However, a few reviews mentioned concerns with cleanliness, such as dirty crockery and floors, which slightly lowers the score.

The cottage's location in the Peak District & Derbyshire Dales, specifically in the village of Rugeley, is highly praised. Guests enjoyed the local pubs and the convenience of the Antlers cafe. The area is also appreciated for its walking routes and historic interest.

Guests frequently mentioned the comfort of the beds and the cosy nature of the cottage. The well-furnished rooms and the presence of a secure courtyard for pets contributed to the high comfort level. Some guests found the low beams and snug shower a challenge, which is reflected in the score.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a large kitchen and thoughtful amenities. However, some guests reported maintenance issues such as a broken toilet and bare wires on a vacuum cleaner. The presence of a well-stocked kitchen and the bonus of a washing machine were positives.

Many guests appreciated the thoughtful touches, including welcome baskets and toiletries. While these gifts enhanced their stay, it is important to note that such amenities are subject to change and may not be guaranteed for every visit.

    The Owner was very helpful.

There are lots of walks on the surrounding area - it has a central location. It was also very dog friendly and my dogs really enjoyed their break away. Thank you for the lovely hamper left for us and the surprise of the bottle of Prosecco in the fridge. We would definitely book again.

Hazel provided a warm welcome, and the cottage itself was very cosy. The kitchen is huge and very well-equipped and, although the sitting room is small, it was comfortable and had a 'smart' TV - and with access via French-doors to some private outside space which we would certainly have enjoyed in better weather. Because of all the recent rain some of the local walks were muddy and slippery, but it's a lovely area, and the village is very friendly with some nice pubs, a small general store, and Antlers tea-room. The only minor issue is the bathroom being off one of the bedrooms. To be honest, for a family it really isn't a problem - we just negotiated times! And there is a cloakroom downstairs anyway. The shower cubicle is small, so our only constructive suggestion might be to forego the large bath, and install a larger shower. But overall it is simply a delightful place and I'm sure we will be back.
