About this property

Resting within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the picturesque waterside village of Newton Ferrers, is this modern lodge. Stylishly furnished and decorated throughout to create warm and inviting accommodation, Oyster Lodge is ideal for families or groups of friends. The bright and airy living space is open plan. Meals can be prepared with ease in the well equipped kitchen. Gather at the dining table to enjoy a family dinner and then relax and unwind in the lovely sitting area. There are three well-presented bedrooms comprised of a king-size with en-suite shower room, a double and a twin room. In the family bathroom you'll find both bath and shower so that you can enjoy a warm soak at the end of a tiring day. Step out to the enclosed, south facing decking area and enjoy a refreshing drink with lovely views to the church and village beyond. Newton Ferrers sits opposite its twin village, Noss Mayo on the banks of the river Yealm. At low tide you can cross the estuary on foot and explore. This is true boating country and there is nothing nicer than sitting at one of the excellent waterfront pubs and watch life pass by on the water. There are good walks including the scenic South West Coast Path right from the door. You can hire paddle boards and wakeboards or join a trip, play tennis and go horse riding. Catch a pedestrian ferry to walk to a secluded beach or head to lovely Mothecombe beach. Further afield is Devon's Ocean City of Plymouth. This bustling city with its famous Barbican and Hoe has much to offer, including the National Marine Aquarium, theatre, museums, shopping and much more. Across the border in Cornwall, Mount Edgecumbe House and Country Park, which spans across 885-acres and is the ultimate place for exploring the rural countryside. Whatever you decide, you're assured of a happy holiday at Oyster Lodge

A tranquil, picturesque village in the South Hams area of Devon, on a bend of the River Yealm leading up from the South Devon coast (1 mile). The perfect haven for sailors, for those who love messing about near water and for those who appreciate stunning and civilised countryside. There is a local butcher, chemist, post office and grocer in Newton Ferrers and an organic farm shop just two miles away. The village pub, with fantastic views across the water towards Noss Mayo and the creek, serves good food and drink. The area is blessed with many walks that meander along the waterside and across the fields, while to the north Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces beckon those who love wild country. The city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area is just 8 miles away while beautiful Totnes with its 'alternative' view on life is a must. If the beach rather than boats is what you seek, you won't do better than the beautiful sands at Mothecombe and Bigbury just a few miles down the road. Both are accessible by road or boat from Newton Ferrers. There are a number of excellent golf courses nearby.

It was clean and tidy. However we felt the overall standard of the Lodge was a bit tired. The beds were very saggy, and the kitchen equipment and utensils were rather old and worn. The frying pan was rusty and unusable, and metal tools with nonstick pans are a disaster. This said, we would probably come again.

We really enjoyed our time here despite the terrible weather. The accommodation was well equipped, spacious and comfortable, with the added bonus of being exceptionally dog friendly. Some very pretty walks close by and only a short stroll to good local facilities, including a bakery/coffee shop, Co-Op, and pub. The Dolphin pub was warm, friendly and a great place to relax at the end of the day.

Time to replace them with better quality items. Also one of the children found 2 white tablets under the single bed whilst looking for her shoes....!
