Fisherman's Cottage is a charming and quirky retreat in the heart of Plymouth's Barbican, praised for its unbeatable location close to the harbour, restaurants, and bars. Guests love the unique character, private parking, and dog-friendly features, including a secure garden. While the cottage is cosy and well-equipped for short stays, some guests noted areas needing a deep clean and minor maintenance. The compact layout and steep stairs may not suit everyone, but the peaceful setting and responsive hosts make it a delightful base for exploring Plymouth.
Several guests mentioned issues such as dust, cobwebs, mould in the bathroom, and the need for a deep clean, though some found the property generally clean. Cleanliness is inconsistent and could be improved.

The owner was very helpful when I called him prior to our visit with questions about where the cottage is. The instructions sent on email from the agency didn’t make any sense and can’t get you there in car. Yes the location and parking was fabulous but the accommodation wasn’t. Some issues could be rectified with some tlc and attention to detail such as (mentioned in other reviews) lack of lamps/ambient lighting), better towels (small bath towels provided instead of bath sheets) just one toilet roll for a 6 night stay, the poorly equipped kitchen, just one tea towel and no kitchen roll, (lg frying pan old and in need of replacing, utensils container was glass and broken at the bottom, need for pots/pans you could put in the oven, mixing/salad bowl, jug, tea pot). The toaster was grubby, outside space not useable as the cushion etc were dirty and the outside sofa is old and broken, it could do with a spruce up outside. Windows could do with some maintenance and a clean. But overall the biggest problem was the shower room and I’m not sure anything could be done to improve it. Because of the age of the property it’s tucked under the stairs in the kitchen and doesn’t have a cubicle so water goes everywhere and the single bath mat provided is soaked in one use and there’s nowhere to dry it. Poor ventilation makes it very smelly and damp (the fittings are rusty and the right hand door is missing from the bathroom cabinet. The shower itself is very good it’s just a shame it’s surrounded by such a grim area.

Excellent location in the Barbican and very close to the front for bars and restaurants. Amazing that it had its own parking space. However, the house was not clean. The bathroom was mouldy. Skirting and stairs were very dusty. Outdoor seating cushions were too stained to sit on and there was a dangerous drooping loose wire that ran along the edge of the top step into the sitting room. The oven grill pan has not been cleaned from the previous occupant. Kitchen equipment was very limited.

Joe was very helpful when I needed, and the overall experience was lovely! I had a cosy stay for one, could walk to most places around the Barbican, yet it is very quiet being in a little courtyard. Have been twice and would come again. Bathroom is really small, so watch your head if you're tall, and the heater is very close to your legs. The cottage is on 3 floors with kitchen and bathroom on the bottom floor, living room with TV on second and bedroom on third. Perfectly comfortable, warm, simple but nice decor, and lovely flowers outside.
