This was a very comfortable cottage and a great place to spend the very hot days we have just had. Being on the edge of the forest it is surrounded by trees and was very shady. Our host was lovely, welcomed us herself and showed us around. Lots of thoughtful touches eg tea and coffee, bathroom essentials. The local pub was great too.

Lovely cottage. Very peaceful, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Access to woodland walks across the road, and not far from other forest attractions.

The Nook is a wonderful, cosy base from which to explore the Forest of Dean. Attached to the owners property, we received a warm welcome and introduction. Everything was very clean and the bed very comfortable. We loved that there was a private garden, but unfortunately didn't get much chance to use it because of rainy weather. We would have liked to use the fire, but the main heating wasn't adjustable and was set warm. The Nook was well equipped for our needs, included all the essentials such as shower gel and shampoo, which was much appreciated. The shower is large, clean, and the pressure and temp of water is great. The towels were a bit small and thin, but they were certainly adequate. The kitchen also had everything we needed, fully equipped. The living room has a lovely large window looking out to part of the owners grounds where you can watch their chickens, ducks, and various other wildlife. We saw a Woodpecker on the bird feeder and also spotted a fledgling Blue Tit! Not to mention all the sheep that wander around Whitecroft and neighbouring villages! For anyone interested in what we did during our stay:On our way there we stopped at Chepstow Castle, a fantastic place, very interesting and beautiful. Day 1 drove 10 mins to Beechenhurst and walked the 5 mile Sculpture Trail. It was really fun to discuss the installations as we went along, while taking in the stunning forest. Day 2 walked to Whitecroft Station and took the steam train to Lydney Junction. Scenic walk to the harbour, lunch and a warm drink, then steam train back to The Nook. In the evening we explored the woodlands just across the road. Last day, checked out by 10am and drove 10 mins to Puzzlewood. Well worth a visit, this woodland is so unusual and amazing to experience, a lot of fun! On our way home we stopped at Painswick Rococo Garden which was great, really beautiful, lots to explore.
