About this property

The beautifully styled Rattery Lodge is a splendid family retreat nestled in the South Devon countryside at Rattery, a charming little village close to Totnes. With four wonderful bedrooms, this immaculate holiday home sleeps eight guests in modern comfort. Lush, sprawling surroundings complete the picture where you can enjoy family picnics, sensational countryside views and plenty of fresh air.

Rattery Lodge is perfect for a family holiday or catching up with friends. With off-grid, rural glory and oozing both taste and acreage, this spacious home provides wonderful accommodation.

Rattery Lodge is beautifully appointed with great attention to detail. Much of the wood you will find around the house was salvaged during the restoration of the Dartmouth Lower Ferry slipway. Knowing that, you may enjoy feeling the banister as you climb the stairs or gazing at the weathering on cupboard doors knowing that Rattery Lodge lovingly contains nods from the past as well as contemporary comforts.

The spacious living room is brimming with soft leather sofas and chairs where you can rest and enjoy stunning garden views, just the type that floor-to-ceiling windows were made for. Perhaps you may enjoy a little family sing-a-long around the piano or just chat about plans for the day. The impressive L-shaped kitchen diner is the heart of this happy home. The two-tone white and wooden kitchen units blend perfectly with the ancient beams. The kitchen boasts a wine fridge amongst the excellent appliances. Also on offer is a breakfast bar where guests can open a bottle of wine and keep the chef company while they prepare a delicious meal.

Three of the four beautifully finished bedrooms are located on the first floor, including the master suite. This lovely bedroom enjoys glorious views across lush neighbouring fields and valleys. It offers a comfortable king-size bed, a private balcony and a smart en-suite bathroom. There is another delightful king bedroom and a twin which can be converted to a king on request. The family bathroom is immaculate and boasts a shower and a bath. The fourth bedroom also can be a twin or king and is located on the ground floor, ideal if you have someone less mobile with you. It offers an en-suite bathroom.

Rattery Lodge sits majestically peaceful in its acre of gardens which are encased by mature trees. All you can see is fabulous countryside. What a wonderful ‘away-from-it-all’ feeling you will enjoy! The garden is south facing so it is the perfect place for alfresco dining and family barbecues. You can take one of the footpaths to the village and the local pub, Church House Inn where you can enjoy some delicious country meals. There is a village shop for some tasty basics. This is a truly magical, tranquil spot, just on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and within easy driving distance to the south Devon coast. Dartington and Totnes are brilliant for shopping.

The lovely Rattery Lodge is located in a tranquil, rural position just a short stroll from the village of Rattery. Whilst Rattery offers a small shop and a pub, there is plenty of shopping and other facilities at Totnes and Dartington. Rattery is located on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park so visitors can enjoy wonderful scenery and wildlife.

Wine lovers can enjoy delicious classic English wines and tasty cheese at Sharpham Wine and Cheese at Totnes. Nature has bestowed her gifts on Sharpham and in the winery, New World and traditional techniques produce unique, regional, characterful wines. Their tally of International Awards confirms their position as one of England’s foremost quality wine producers. Visitors can enjoy tastings and tours.

The Dartington Hall estate is home to 25 acres of Grade II listed gardens, which are open year round from dawn till dusk. With a rich sense of history and a host of delightful features including a new bridge by artist Peter Randall Page, a Henry Moore sculpture and 500 year old Spanish Chestnut trees, the beautiful gardens are worth exploring all year round. The Dartington Hall Estate also houses 41 listed structures, some of them open to the public.

Visitors will certainly have their pick of castles to visit in this wonderful area. How about a day visiting the castles of Devon? Tucked away in a deep wooded valley, the 15th century Berry Pomeroy Castle is a romantic ruin with a colourful history of intrigue. Within the defences of the Pomeroy family castle, looms the ruins shell of its successor, the Elizabethan mansion of the Seymours. It was never completed and was abandoned by 1700 when it became the focus of ghost stories. Totnes Castle stands majestically in the town, a mighty legacy of the Normans. It is one of the best surviving examples of an early Norman motte and bailey castle. Close by, you can also visit Dartmouth Castle.

Totnes is a bustling town with a Friday and Saturday outdoor market, a monthly indoor market with arts and crafts, delicious food and special gifts and a Totnes Good Food Sunday Market held on the third Sunday of each month. China Blue is an Aladdin’s cave with a wonderful ceramic studio.

The Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company offers wonderful family days out on steam trains, boats and a paddle steamer. Visitors can enjoy the delights of Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Dartmouth and the River Dart. No visit to South Devon is complete without a few days at the seaside!

We were a mixed family of 8 with age range of 10 to 80. The hosts were unbelievably helpful and the property was stunning with amazing views. Everything you could possibly want was there and more. We will definitely be going back.

Rattery Lodge was the perfect place for three families to come together to celebrate a birthday. So much space, spotlessly clean, child friendly and very comfortable. Would highly recommend.

Four generations enjoyed a great week again. Beautiful weather - hope to come back next year.
