About this property

Perched between the pretty village of Blackawton, Devon and the South-West Coastal Path at Strete and historic Slapton Sands, is this beautiful first-floor apartment, 8 Sheplegh Court. Enjoying a fantastic setting in 30 acres of landscaped 19th Century Gardens and private woodlands, in an elegant country house steeped in history, 8 Sheplegh Court is a wonderful choice for couples or a family of four. The property includes access to a sauna, tennis courts, and games rooms offering a full-sized snooker table, dart board and table tennis table. There is a barbecue area and some lovely picnic spots among lawns, shrubberies and woodland paths, perfect for making the most of this relaxing sanctuary. Inside the apartment, you can expect a wealth of period features including large Georgian sash windows, allowing the natural light to flow in and lovely high ceilings. Be welcomed into the open-plan living space, where you will find a well-equipped kitchen with quality cookware, allowing you to savour your meal at the dining table over a bottle of wine and a superb outlook over the grounds. After dinner, curl up on the plush seating and select a much-loved film from the TV as the evening’s entertainment. Continue through to find a well-appointed bathroom, where you can freshen up with your choice of bath or shower, before retiring to one of two tastefully decorated bedrooms, a double and a twin, both of which enjoy beautiful views. Sheplegh Court is perfectly located in the middle of the famous South Hams, just 4 miles from one of Britain's most beautiful beaches, Blackpool Sands, 5 miles from Slapton Sands with its WW2 history and seaside pubs, 7 miles from stylish Dartmouth's harbour-front boutiques and chic restaurants and 6 miles from Kingsbridge, the gateway to the sandy beaches of Salcombe and Hope Cove. Closer to home you can explore the village of Blackawton, where you will find the welcoming George Inn, serving hearty pub fare and local ales, a historic church, and a well-stocked community shop for picking up any essentials. Another nearby pub is in the village of East Allington, the Fortescue Arms, which has been voted 5* by Tripadvisor Travellers. On the outskirts of the village, you will find the popular Woodlands Family Theme Park, and the Woodlands Falconry, where you can spend a fun-filled afternoon. From here, take the short drive over to the historic town of Dartmouth, where you can tour the Dartmouth Museum, explore Bayard’s Cave, visit Dartmouth Castle, sample fresh seafood at Rockfish and The Seahorse, or catch a ferry over to Kingswear, where you will find a remarkable castle and the stunning National Trust – Coleton Fishacre. For a day at the beach, head to the gorgeous Blackpool Sands, where you can bathe, dine at the café, or try your hand at watersports. Further afield you’ll find Totnes, home to a magnificent castle, THE TIMEHOUSE, Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and the South Devon Railway. For a unique stay in Devon, choose 8 Sheplegh Court.

The South Devon community of Blackawton and its neighbouring settlements are ideal for a relaxing vacation. The location strikes a wonderful combination between solitude and convenience, with a plethora of picturesque hikes, welcoming local pubs, and more right on your doorstep, all while being within easy reach to Dartmouth and the beaches of Start Bay. The 14th-century Parish Church of St. Michael stands proudly in the middle of the hamlet on Main Street. The George Inn, located in the centre of the village, is a family-run bar. This dog-friendly pub is located across from the church and has a scenic view of the South Hams countryside from its back patio. Halwell is a quaint farming community not far from both the bustling market town of Kingsbridge and the trendy neighbourhood of Totnes. Markets are held outside on Fridays and Saturdays in this picturesque Devon town, which is home to a thriving main street and a regular market. Every Tuesday morning during the high season (May through September), you can visit an authentic Elizabethan market.

Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful with regular updates and a well presented property on arrival. Thank you! If you're looking for a secluded spot, this is the place for you... The kids were back at school and it was so peaceful. Bliss! Devon country lanes feature heavily, so brush up on your reversing skills and take a detailed map. Loads to see and do with stunning scenery and Dartmouth close at hand for all the essentials. Everything we needed at the apartment for a relaxing and comfortable week. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Beautiful grounds, super outdoor, heated pool, tennis court and snooker room....all great quality. Maple Tree View was excellent, comfortable, spacious and everything we needed. Owners were extremely helpful and provided us with useful information and answered any quarries we had very promptly. Would highly recommend for a quiet, relaxing stay. The roads are typically narrow to get to the property but you would expect this in Devon/Cornwall.
