Bell Cottage is a welcoming house nestled in Dartmouth, Devon. Suited to couples or families with older children, this delightful abode features en-suite facilities, serene river vistas from the patio and proximity to the beach. Step inside Bell Cottage and you’re welcomed into a light‑filled kitchen/diner, a space designed for lingering mornings and relaxed evenings. Bright and inviting, it’s styled with homely yet contemporary fixtures and fittings, centred around a circular dining table that naturally draws everyone together. An electric fire adds warmth and ambience, while a mounted TV makes this a comfortable spot to linger long after supper. Large windows frame views across the River Dart and the town beyond, filling the room with natural light and a constant sense of place.
From here, the cottage flows into the sitting room, where the atmosphere shifts to something softer and more intimate. An L‑shaped sofa sits perfectly positioned in front of the windows, inviting you to stretch out and watch the river activity unfold below. A window seat offers a particularly peaceful perch, ideal for a quiet coffee or an unhurried chapter of a book, while the sloped ceiling, plush carpeting and bright interiors create a cushy yet airy feel that’s easy to settle into. Continuing through the property, the conservatory offers a gentle connection to the outdoors. Tiled underfoot and softened with potted plants, it’s a calm, light‑filled space where greenery and natural light set the tone.
From here, doors open directly onto the patio, making it effortless to step outside with a glass of something chilled or take meals into the open air on warmer days. When it’s time to retreat for the night, both bedrooms feel calm, bright and welcoming. Soft carpets underfoot, carefully placed lamps and a soothing colour palette create restful spaces designed for slow mornings and early nights. Both rooms enjoy river views, so you can wake to changing light over the water. The king‑size bedroom offers an added touch of indulgence, where evenings can end with a long, luxurious soak in the freestanding bath, while the second double bedroom provides a serene space to refresh and unwind.
Dartmouth Harbour is just a short stroll away, where you can watch boats gently bob along the water, wander the lively waterfront lined with independent shops and galleries, and pause to enjoy fish and chips as the river and town buzz softly around you. Closer still, Sugary Cove Beach lies tucked beneath the headland near Dartmouth Castle, inviting you to follow the coastal path down to its sheltered shoreline, dip your toes into clear water, and linger in a quieter, more secluded setting away from the crowds, a much‑loved local spot for calm, reflective moments by the sea. At the mouth of the River Dart, Dartmouth Castle offers a memorable outing, where clifftop paths lead you past sweeping sea views, the sound of waves echoes below, and centuries of maritime history unfold as you explore one of the area’s most iconic landmarks.
After a day exploring the beauty of Devon, return to Bell Cottage and settle whilst admiring the stunning river views
Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
